A highly skilled technical administrative and supervisory position responsible for managing the Training Division under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of operations. Also directs develops and administers various Fire/Rescue service programs to ensure all members of the department meet the Local State and Federal requirements of their position. This position also tracks the training section requirements for ISO. In addition this position is assigned to the EOC Command Staff during Disasters.

Assists in administration of a single division within the Department.
Assists in development of Departmentwide hiring budgeting purchasing policies and grant programs.
Assists in union negotiations including drafting research and/or attending bargaining sessions.
Works in concert with other Staff Officers (career & volunteer) to ensure continuity within the department.
Coordinates technical advice within the division which assigned.
Responds to fires and other emergencies in a command or other capacity as required by the Fire Chief.
Provides command control and oversight for the division assigned.
Maintains a professional and safe work environment through implementation of safety procedures.
Assist the department in establishing the desired image in the public.
Consistently follows Board policies and procedures.
Responds positively and productively to changes within the Department.
Works positively and productively with all personnel both internally and externally.
All other duties as assigned by the Public Safety Director.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of latest training techniques and principles of instruction for all aspects of the fire service.
Knowledge of current fire safety codes laws rules and regulations including the fire prevention code.
Knowledge of principles and practices of fire safety and inspection techniques.
Knowledge of firefighting techniques fire ground safety and emergency medical treatment which are applicable to the position.
Ability to plan evaluate assign and coordinate activities performed by members.
Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform during high stress situations.
Ability to prepare reports on fire services activities policy and procedural recommendations.
Skill in managing an essential service with limited program funds including budget management.
Ability to be selfdirected and capable of independent decision making.
Ability to maintain a positive and forwardthinking work environment for all members
Disaster Essential. Career FIREFIGHTERS in Highlands County will not be able to operate as volunteer FIREFIGHTERS with Highlands County. A CJIS is required as part of background check process.
