The El Dorado Hills Fire Department is looking for highly motivated qualified individuals to join our team!

SALARY INFORMATION:
Anticipated Annual Base Salary in July 2025: $70567 $85782.

Annual Compensation: $84380 $102378 (Includes base pay required overtime holiday pay and an anticipated 8 base salary increase in July 2025.

ABOUT THE TOWN OF EL DORADO HILLS

Nestled along Highway 50 in the lower Sierra Nevada foothills in western El Dorado County the unincorporated community of El Dorado Hills enjoys the kind of location that Californians dream about. Adjacent to Folsom Lake only 40 minutes from downtown Sacramento and 90 minutes from Lake Tahoe its ideal location and mild seasonal climate are matched with excellent schools safe neighborhoods and plenty of amenities. Its lush rolling hills provide breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the Sacramento Valley. More than half of El Dorado County consists of national forest and other recreation areas including the worldfamous Rubicon Trail. El Dorado Countys 10000foot mountain peaks 200 lakes and 682 miles of rivers make the area ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. Those with a more relaxed sense of recreation may also enjoy the rich Gold Rush history Apple Hill and over 100 wineries and breweries.

ABOUT EL DORADO HILLS FIRE DEPARTMENT

The El Dorado Hills Fire Department was formed in 1963 and is led by five elected board members. It employs more than 80 employees that include fire suppression emergency medical services fire prevention and administrative personnel. The department is an allrisk department that provides fire protection and emergency medical services 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All stations are a designated Safe Place for children and adults that are in danger as well as Safe Surrender for babies. In addition the department is involved with community services and events. To ensure the safety of our youngest citizens our Fire Department conducts a Buckle Up Baby Program to ensure car seats are inspected for proper installation. Residents can also participate in our Life Jacket Loaner Safety Program so that swimming boating and watersport enthusiasts who find themselves without life jackets can borrow a life jacket to enjoy a safe day on the water. Every holiday season our premier event known as the Santa Run is a weeklong joyous event that brings Santa Mrs. Claus and the running elves to many neighborhoods and designated locations to collect toys for Shriners Hospital and food for families in need all while spreading cheer and handing out candy canes to participants.

DEFINITION
Under the direction of the assigned Captain/Supervisor provides ambulance transport services as a member of the El Dorado Hills Fire Department (Department).

CHARACTERISTICS
The nonfirefighting position of Paramedic (EMTP) works under the direct supervision of the assigned Captain in conjunction with other Department Staff and the overall direction of the Operations Branch. The primary responsibility of the EMTP is to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) care and transport of patients as a team member of the Department and in support of the El Dorado County Emergency Services Authority (JPA).

An EMTP is required to be able to make critical decisions that impact the safety wellbeing or life of patients and members of the Department in stressful situations. The EMTP is expected to execute sound judgment that demonstrates the highest of ethical and moral standards in the performance of job duties and other situations with and without explicit direction. The EMTP is not authorized to make budget expenditures.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Note: The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of a specific statement on duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all the duties listed. Employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level as required. Management reserves the right to add modify change or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Operate JPA owned ambulances as directed including driving to and from medical emergencies as part of the ambulance transportation team.
  2. Must pass Department EMS Academy and all related new hire didactic and skills training with no less than 80 final score prior to release to activeduty status within the Department.
  3. A licensed Paramedic is authorized to do any of the following procedures utilizing both BLS and ALS level skills during training while at the scene of an emergency or during patient care but is not limited to:
    • Evaluate the ill and injured and document findings and actions on a patient care report.
    • Render both basic and advanced life support rescue and first aid to patients.
    • Obtain and document diagnostic signs including but not limited to temperature blood pressure pulse and respirations rates level of consciousness pupil status and electrocardiogram interpretations.
    • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation including the use of mechanical adjuncts to advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and both manual defibrillators and automated external defibrillators (AED).
    • Use the following adjunctive airway breathing aids:
      • Oropharyngeal airway; nasopharyngeal airway.
      • Advanced airways to include Supraglottic and endotracheal intubation.
      • Waveform capnography.
      • Suction devices.
      • Basic and advanced oxygen delivery devices; and
      • Manual and mechanical ventilating devices designed for prehospital use.
    • Use various types of stretchers and body immobilization devices.
    • Provide initial prehospital emergency trauma care.
    • Perform basic field triage.
    • Transport patients.
    • Manage patients within their scope of practice.
    • Administration of emergency medications per El Dorado County.
    • EMS Protocols.
    • Lifting patients into ambulances on a gurney.
  4. Contact and obtain direction from base hospitals regarding patient care.
  5. Cleans and decontaminates as necessary/directed Department equipment apparatus and facilities.
  6. Collection and documentation of patient billing information per Department policy.
  7. Maintains and restocks inventory of ambulance and station EMS supplies.
  8. Performs preventative maintenance inspections (PMI) on assigned apparatus.
  9. Follows all Federal State County Local and Department laws regulations protocols and policies including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  10. Attends and successfully completes Department and hospital training sessions and drills.
  11. Participates in overseeing operational readiness and cleanliness of apparatus and equipment.
  12. Participate in all assigned training.
  13. Participate in public education/training efforts.
  14. Serve as a mentor/trainer of new employees.
  15. Attend Department and County meetings as directed.
  16. Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge Of:
Applicable federal state county local and department regulations practices and procedures; principals of emergency ambulance and transportation procedures including first aid resuscitator and gurney operations including safe emergency work practices; infectious disease control procedures; emergency radio communication procedures medical terminology and documentation; emergency vehicle maintenance and operation including all applicable federal and state driving licenses; correct English grammar punctuation and spelling; basic computer operations.

Ability To:
Learn rules regulations and operational procedures of the Fire Department; read electronic and incident maps and follow map directions; learn the street location and physical layout of the district and major traffic; work effectively in difficult and hazardous emergency situations and environments and carry out work assignments as instructed; think and act quickly in emergencies; work effectively as a member of a team; safely and properly operate a vehicle and transport patients during ambulance transportation; learn basic and advanced life support emergency medical care and CPR lifesaving procedures; demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude; learn the operating and mechanical principals of Department owned vehicles and equipment used by the Department; understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately; communicate orally effectively with the public and fellow employees; learn through structures lectures in a classroom setting and through oral instruction in an onthejob setting; comprehend and make inferences from written material; learn to operate and enter data into a computer terminal personal computer or keyboard device; produce written documents using proper grammar and punctuation; deal courteously and effectively with the public; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills knowledge and abilities may be considered qualifying at the sole discretion of the District. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate is required.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid (unrestricted) California Drivers License Class C and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must possess and maintain valid State of California EMTP Certification/Licensure.
  • Current and ability to maintain American Heart Association CPR (Healthcare) ACLS PALS(PEPP) and PHTLS Certification.
  • Upon hire candidates must complete and maintain El Dorado County Paramedic Accreditation as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Desirable:
  • Ambulance work experience.
  • California State Fire Marshal Accredited Firefighter I Academy.
  • California State Fire Marshal Training Courses.

Qualified candidates may apply for the position of Paramedic. We only accept applications from candidates who meet all of the requirements. Candidates with the most relevant qualifications will be invited to an Oral Panel Interview and EMS Assessment Center. The Oral Panel Interview EMS Assessment Center and Paramedic Ability Test process will be weighted for placement on the Departments eligibility list. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation medical and drug screening and/or polygraph examination. The probationary period is twelve 12 months.
