Are you a leader in your community who wants to support teachers in a thriving childcare program Join the Penobscot Bay YMCA as our new Director of Childcare reporting to our Senior Director of Youth and Family Services Meredith Gutheinz. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to work in a supportive caring fun environment with plenty of opportunities for professional development.


Our Y is a highquality licensed accredited 5star QRIS rated child care center currently serving 90 children from 6weekold babies in our new Lily Pond Infant Center to preschoolers up to fiveyears of age in our vibrant wellestablished classrooms. We offer a caring familyfriendly work environment within a missiondriven organization with a long history of serving our wonderful Midcoast community. This is a salaried exempt position with an excellent benefits package including a 10 retirement contribution after two years of service paid holidays four weeks of PTO and a free family membership to the Y. Plus all child care staff currently receive a monthly $240 bonus from the State of Maine in addition to base pay.


The ideal candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule between the hours of 7A to 5P Monday through Friday. We seek a responsible kind organized creative individual to lead our dynamic Rockport child care team. Come join the Y and make a difference in our community!


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Direct the early learning programs for the Y ensuring high quality programs and activities and a safe learning environment.
  2. Provide classroom coverage daily.
  3. Maintain compliance with all government regulations NAEYC accreditation requirements and YMCA safety standards.
  4. Train develop schedule direct and evaluate staff and volunteers as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Develop and manage budgets related to the position with support from the Senior Director of Youth and Family Services.
  6. Manage program enrollment and ensure that program fees are collected.
  7. Respond to parent inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  8. Maintain proper records/department files.
  9. Organize special events for parents and assist with YMCA fundraising activities.
  10. Facilitates monthly Child Care staff meetings incorporating relevant training as required by the YMCA and DHHS and Maine Roads to Quality with support of the Senior Director of Youth and Family Services.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned for the good of the organization.


Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field OR an Associates degree and two years of direct child care experience; OR a high school diploma and three years of direct child care experience required.
  2. Two years in management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  3. Proven experience in early learning management issues and classroom management strategies.
  4. Knowledge of early childhood development and education and licensing requirements.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens; Mandated Reporter.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.
  8. Strong computer skills including experience with standard business software (MS Office Suite Google Suite) required; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred.
