Position Overview
Deaf Children Australia (DCA) is a notforprofit organisation that supports deaf and hardofhearing children young people and their families to remove barriers to their personal development and social inclusion.
DCA provides a range of services to families with deaf and hardofhearing children. These services help families build confidence and connections with others in the community.
After learning their child is deaf or hard of hearing parents have many questions. DCAs Parent Mentor program helps support and connect parents who have either received a recent diagnosis for their child or who are further along in their childs hearing loss journey.
Our Parent Mentor Program is available statewide across Victoria and Queensland. Trained Parent Mentors meet with families through home visits ZOOM or phone contact in local community playgroups or at Early Intervention Centre playgroups or at parent group events such as POD Support Network (POD) groups.
DCA is looking to recruit Parent Mentors in Melbourne and regional areas. This is a casual role with comprehensive training provided. Applicants would need to have a level of understanding of the needs of a baby/young child with hearing loss have reasonable availability school hours are workable) possess effective communication skills and an interest in working with children and families.
Skills and experience
1.Must be the parent of a deaf or HoH child
2.Must be a minimum of 6 years along your hearing loss journey
3.Excellent communication skills
4.Good admin skills
5.Current drivers license & ability to utilise own vehicle
6.Demonstrated physical capability to perform job requirements
