Job Description

Financial Accountant

Are you looking for a varied position in Finance offering excellent career development

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Financial Accountant reporting to the Finance Manager in an established cycling media business.

The Finance team will support your development and training and there is the potential for funded study support including study leave. We also offer apprenticeships. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for career development in a finance role.

Working at Play Sports as a Financial Accountant will provide you with experience and exposure to the wider business. You will develop skills and experience across a broad range of finance activities; you will also have the opportunity to support process improvements as the business continues to grow and become more complex.

Your Responsibilities will include

  • Supporting finance management with the monthend process including revenue recognition accruals and prepayments
  • Ownership of revenue streams across the business identifying trends and investigating anomalies
  • Collaborating with department managers to ensure financial requirements and data requests are met in a timely manner
  • Review and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting FP&A Manager with commentary and variance analysis
  • Supporting Finance Manager to ensure we maintain a consistent control environment
  • Ownership of E Commerce processing including sales reconciliation and cost allocations
  • Management of purchase ledger ensuring invoices match purchase orders are paid and queries are resolved
  • Responsibility for raising sales ledger invoices supporting with credit control and maintaining customer relationships
  • Supporting with VAT compliance and returns
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts
  • Support with queries sent to the finance email address responding to queries effectively
  • Assisting with the yearend close and audit
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required

Skills and Experience that will help you be a successful candidate

  • Qualified or working towards a finance qualification (e.g. AAT)
  • Good Excel/Google Sheet skills
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within the finance team and across the wider business
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Experience in using accounting systems
  • Broad experience in finance activities
  • Ability to prioritise & time manage

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a media or business services environment
  • Experience in using Sage
  • Good understanding of double entry
  • Proactive and supportive
  • Willingness to attend the office in order to perform your duties and collaborate with the wider business
