Job Description
Select Genetics is a premier supplier of eggs and poults around the country and the world. We have three operations in North Carolina: Goldsboro Raeford and Wadesboro and weare looking for interns in those divisions.
In this role students will gain exposure to multiple facets of the turkey operations. Over the 1012 week internship students will learn from service techs crew leaders and managers on the various tasks required to maintain our daily poultry operations. Students will spend time on multiple farms learning about the breeding and hatching processes egg picking biosecurity fertility issues people management leadership and more. Students will be trained in various roles such as egg picking vaccination and insemination and will also cover the skills necessary to lead and manage crews.
Interns will need to be able to:
- Collect and accurately count the eggs.
- Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
- Follow all the companys rules and regulations for biosecurity animal welfare and safety.
- Work productively in a team environment and be willing to help in any area to get the job done.
- Work with a variety of tools and equipment.
- Push bend stoop squat pull and lift 50lbs or more.
- Successfully working with live animals.
- Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations
- Perform minor repairs on equipment as needed or directed by the farm Manager
- Ensure proper feeding and watering needs are met for the turkeys on the farm
- Conduct daily walk throughs to check bait traps and dispose of any dead vermin
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Check for dead birds consistently throughout the day in all barns and follow all protocols and procedures for removal of dead birds or possible quarantine of sick turkeys;
- Follow all company regulations pertaining to biosecurity animal welfare and safety
