You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe English Language Learning and Teaching Department at Thompson Rivers University invites applications for sessional instructors to teach the last halves of ESAL/C01 and 058004 in the Winter 2025 semester. Per article 10.3.2.1 of the TRUFA Collective Agreement duties will include:
(a) The preparation of and reasonable adherence to academic course outlines;
(b) Availability for student consultations including the posting of reasonable office hours;
(c) Student evaluation and testing;
(e) Submission of grades as required by departmental or program practice and the requirements of Senate;
(g) Meeting with scheduled tutorial seminar laboratory and lecture groups as specified in course syllabuses except for reasonable change upon due notice where possible.
(h) Course preparation and revisions.
ESAL 0408 Advanced Pronunciation
For highintermediate to advanced learners of English this course is designed to improve the comprehension of spoken English and intelligibility when speaking English. Students develop skills to assist them in predicting producing and perceiving the pronunciation of words and phrases. Students at the university level whose goals demand aboveaverage oral skills and a wide range of active vocabulary will find this course particularly relevant and valuable.
ESAL 0480 Advanced Composition
This course reviews the paragraph as a component of the English essay. Emphasis is on the planning development and revision of multiparagraph compositions. Students focus on specific problems with their writing and practice editing.
ESAL 0570 Academic Reading Skills
This course is designed to prepare students for reading university level material effectively and efficiently. Specific approaches to reading are taught for factual and fictional writing. Emphasis is on the short story.
ESAL 0580 Academic Writing
This course focuses on the process of writing. However integral to the writing process are the skills of reading and listening actively and critically. Collaboration and teamwork are important components of this course as well. These skills enhance writing ability and also contribute generally to success in both education and employment. Students are expected to read research discuss and work cooperatively as part of the composition process.
Relevant Masters Degree (e.g. TESOL Applied Linguistics) required;
TESL/TESOL Certificate required;
A minimum of two 2 years fulltime experience or equivalent English for Academic Purposes teaching experience required;
TESL Canada Certification Professional Standard Three or eligible;
Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills;
Proven skills in building intercultural understanding empathy and mutual respect;
Evidence of teaching excellence including developing culturally appropriate curricula and;
Evidence of successful teaching experience at the postsecondary level preferred.
