Solar Construction IBT Internships
Job Description
GRID Alternatives North Valley (Sacramento) is a nonprofit organization that makes renewable energy technology and training available to underserved communities. The North Valley Regional Office is offering several paid Solar Construction Internships to assist with GRID Alternatives North Valley installs. Local applicants preferred.
Solar Construction Interns will complete the Installation Basic Training (IBT) certification in areas the Training Officer finds appropriate for the intern. The position allows for the intern to qualify for GRID Alternatives Team Leader certification program. Team Leaders provide guidance and leadership to less experienced volunteers ensure a positive and safe experience and verify that all work is done to our quality standards. Additionally Team Leader certification qualifies volunteers to commence NABCEP certification hours of advanced installation experience.
GRID Alternatives internships provide professional experience in nonprofit housing and renewable energy sector while boosting your resume with community service. Solar Construction Interns work under the supervision of the Training Officers and Solar Installation Supervisors at GRID Alternatives and in close coordination with SolarCorps fellows. Interns receive mentoring and exposure to all aspects of the GRID Alternatives mission and servicelearning training model.
Internship Period: First Cohort 8/28/1810/5/18; 2nd Cohort 10/11/1811/16/18; 3rd Cohort TBD
This is a 5 week MonFri commitment.
Required Commitment: MUST attend all installations and workshops to complete internship.

Activities for this internship will include but are not limited to:
Learn the solar installation process from the Training Officers and Construction staff
Attend financial workshop
Complete various solar workshops with Training Officer
Complete one servicelearning module
Other job duties as assigned: may include warehouse tasks office administrative work data entry file management answering homeowner and volunteer questions talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for lowincome families.
Minimum qualifications for the Internship:
Attend Standard Volunteer orientation
Demonstrate ability to work both independently and in a team
Capacity to create positive relationships with potential volunteers
Comfortable with computers
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Highly reliable and detail oriented
Preferred skills and qualifications:
Strong communication skills
Punctuality
Interest in and enthusiasm for renewable energy
Compensation
This is a paid internship totaling to $1000 upon completion. Outcomes from the internship include completion of the Installation Basics Training certification a good reference corporate and nonprofit networking opportunities work experience and the opportunity to work with fun professional staff and opportunities for professional networking and teambuilding.
**May be eligible for internship units through your department.
Travel and Work Schedule (Local Applicants Preferred)
Position may require travel throughout the north state. Scheduling will be outlined for the intern two weeks in advance; transportation may be available through partnership agreement. GRID Alternatives will provide travel reimbursement at $0.55/mile for personal vehicle use but applicant must hold a valid driver license insurance and possess a reliable vehicle. Fleet vehicles are available and their use for official GRID business is preferred.
