Job Description

JOB TITLE: Outpatient Therapist

SCHEDULE: Anticipated schedule: Monday Friday 6a 3p

LOCATION: OnSite Center for Substance Use & Mental Health Services

CITY STATE COUNTY: Wilmington NC New Hanover County

JOB POSTING:

Provides independent diagnostic psychosocial and professional counseling for clients (adult & adolescents) with complicated substance use mental health and cooccurring disorders with an appropriate level of supervision. This position is meant to reduce barriers to accessing treatment through offering an expansion of services during nontraditional hours including early morning hours during opioid treatment programming.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from a fouryear college or university in human services or related field and two years of progressive substance use counseling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduation from a Masters degree program in clinical or substance use treatment
  • LCSW/LCSWA LPA LCMHC/LCMHCA preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates who are dually licensed with LCAS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Provides independent diagnostic and psychosocial evaluations and counseling which focus on complicated substance use and mental health as well as the issues generated from its impact on daily living and individual and family relationships.
  • Evaluate the clients situation and their ability to deal with their problem; conduct an indepth clinical interview to determine psychosocial and drug history formulate a psychosocial assessment and initial treatment plan; provide indepth counseling which can range from crisis intervention to skill building to dealing with personality disorders which are associated with treatment needs
  • The caseload is characterized as complex with a preponderance of adults and families with substance use mental health and cooccurring disorder patients. Occasionally may see adolescents who are admitted to treatment program with supervision.
  • The counseling methods are best characterized as individual and group utilizing reality cognitivebehavioral family and evidence based modalities. It is individualized depending on the needs of the clients.
  • In providing counseling services the employees may deal with a variety of collateral issues such as finances medical vocational health and behavior.
  • Provide information to and confer with schools employers and families on treatment plans behavior management and other problems and needs.
  • Work with emergency referrals conduct community educational workshops provide professional services to referrals from the judicial system and statewide institutions.
  • May be subject to inside environmental conditions and exposed to fumes odors dusts mists gasses or poor ventilation and subject to work in close quarters. Employees may be exposed to human body fluids and are covered by the OSHA rules and regulations on blood borne pathogens.
  • Provides independent diagnostic psychosocial and substance use evaluations and counseling which focus on complicated substance use and mental health as well as the issues generated from its impact on daily living and individual and family relationships.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Considerable knowledge of the practical application of different therapeutic approaches group dynamics crisis intervention and family therapy.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources.
  • Knowledge of the psychosocial socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment.
  • Knowledge of laws regulations and policies which govern the program.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology disease processes and psychopharmacy.
  • Skill in establishing rapport with a client and/or family and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial behavioral and psychological aspects of the client.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers supervisors and members of civic medical social and religious organizations.
  • Ability to formulate treatment goals and to record concisely required documentation.
  • Knowledge of various methods of psychological evaluation including but not limited to conducting semistructured diagnostic clinical interviews.
  • Ability to communicate effective in oral and written forms.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping reaching and walking fingering grasping talking hearing and performing repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly or frequently to move objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to perform extensive reading.
