Overview:
The Lead Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining repairing and overhauling fleet vehicles in a timely and costefficient manner. Lead Fleet Mechanics ensure shop work is organized and assigned to the appropriate mechanic personnel in the market center location while focusing on quality control and preventative maintenance. Generally a Lead Mechanic works in a market center location/shop with one or two additional mechanics. Schedule is day shift Monday Friday.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Maintain fleet vehicles with emphasis on Preventative Maintenance programs to meet 100 compliance of standards;
- Assist with scheduling and assigning work to the mechanic or associate mechanic personnel;
- Assess and recommend training needs for the fleet mechanic staff to either Regional or Group Manager;
- Utilize the AVMS fleet management computer system that allows for shop operation and tracking with a paperless system ;
- Manage cost control through purchasing inventory management as well as training in the area of safety to assure that the vehicle assets are within reasonable costs;
- Maintain weekly cost data information and provide the Regional or Group Fleet manager of the financial status of the shop and controllable vehicle costs;
- Uphold the quality of standards of the shop cleanliness and comply with OSHA standards.
- Regularly inspect vehicles to ensure that all vehicles not only meet Vestis standards but are also consistent with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards;
- Drive and reinforce quality standards in the shop and follow company workplace conduct policies in the shop.
- Ensure that the Vestis standards are maintained;
- Maintain regular vehicle maintenance on company vehicles (primarily delivery step vans not excluding corp. cars);
- Repair and maintain medium gas and diesel engines brake systems electrical systems suspension systems and lift gates;
- Conduct vehicle inspections;
- Replace general automotive parts including but not limited to brakes tires hoses and belts;
- Document vehicle repairs and inspections according to company guidelines;
- Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of role to support the business.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of DOT regulations vehicle maintenance and applicable state vehicle laws to meet required standards;
- Proficient in preventive maintenance control systems and in parts procurement and inventory control;
- Ability to multi task and work in a fast pace environment;
- Develop and maintain a collaborative and teamoriented environment in the shop;
- Military maintenance experience is a plus;
- Must own your own tools.
Working Environment/Safety Requirements:
- Position is situated in a vehicle repair environment. Exposure to varying temperatures depending on geographical location.
- This position requires bending squatting climbing and reaching.
Experience:
- Six years or more of experience in all phases of fleet vehicle mechanical repairs including general maintenance and repair wiring engine overhaul and preventative maintenance scheduling;
- Military maintenance experience is a plus.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- VO Tech Graduate or Associates degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent on the job training preferred.
License Requirements/ Certifications:
- Valid Drivers License (Not CDL) with minimal points/violations in the last three years.
- Must be able to obtain DOT medical certification.
- No preventable fatal accident while operating a CMV in a lifetime
- No suspension of driving privileges for moving violations in the past 3 years
- *Preemployment DOT physical and federal drug screen are required.

Compensation: The hourly rate that Vestis reasonably expects to pay for this position ranges from $30.00 to $36.00 depending on circumstances including an applicants skills and qualifications certain degrees and certifications prior job experience market data and other relevant factors. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission.
