The salary range for this position is CAD $45.96/Hr. CAD $57.18/Hr.

Summary

Reporting to the Professional Practice Leader (PPL) Occupational Therapy and working collaboratively with the Research Education and Practice Coordinator the position

  • Support the interdisciplinary team in achieving program patient and resident goals.
  • Oversee daytoday operations of Occupational Therapy at designated site(s).
  • Coordinate work assignments monitor patient flow and acuity and adjust as needed.
  • Act as a clinical resource for staff students and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Identify learning needs develop educational materials and provide training.
  • Coach mentor and support staff while facilitating problemsolving.
  • Perform patient/resident assessments and treatments as needed.
  • Communicate site issues or concerns to the Professional Practice Leader (PPL) and Research Education and Practice Coordinator.
  • Promote research and quality improvement initiatives.

What You Bring

Education

  • Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Four 4 years broad experience in a health care setting including previous supervisory and administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Eligible for membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

Your Day to Day:

  • Oversees the daytoday activities of occupational therapy staff at the designated site(s) by performing duties such as coordinating work assignments. Identifies training and education needs of staff and provides orientation to new employees.
  • Monitors patient/resident acuity and flow on the designated site(s) and ensures staffing levels meet the unit needs. Assists staff in prioritizing workload. Adjusts assignments as changes in acuity and staffing require and provides clinical support to staff as needed.
  • Acts as a clinical resource to staff students and other members of the interdisciplinary team by demonstrating procedures answering questions related to clinical practice issues and troubleshooting concerns. Advises and works with PPL Research Education and Practice Coordinator and/or Program staff to resolve issues/concerns.
  • Oversees the daytoday supervision of designated staff by providing advice/guidance facilitating resolution to workplace issues and participating in performance evaluations. Acts as a positive role model for staff and refers issues to PPL as required. Gathers information on staffing changes or requests for coverage and in conjunction with PPL or designate allocates staff based upon skill set and unit or site needs in accordance with applicable collective agreements.
  • Performs direct patient/resident assessment and treatment using recognized Occupational Therapy techniques and practices. Contributes to an interdisciplinary approach to patient/resident care and program related issues by attending ward rounds and team conferences to exchange information in patient/resident issues related to patient/resident care and discharge planning. Collaborates with interdisciplinary care team members regarding Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives by developing QI projects implementing processes and procedures upon authorization and evaluating results. Ensures staff are aware of changes and updates once established.
  • Provides input into the development evaluation and delivery of orientation in conjunction with the Research Education and Practice Coordinator and other members of the health care team. Makes recommendations regarding changes or new initiatives and provides site orientation to employees as required. Identifies learning needs of site staff and communicates to PPL and Research Education and Practice Coordinator. Coordinates and develops education strategies and programs for the site(s). Promotes educational opportunities to staff and encourages continuing education. Presents inservice educational sessions for staff as required.
  • Develops and reviews policies procedures practice standards and reference materials for the applicable site in collaboration with the PPL and Research Education and Practice Coordinator. Provides input to the PPL regarding Performance Planning and Coaching. Acts as clinical resource to staff in the Performance Planning and Coaching process. Assists with Human Resource Planning by identifying vacancies to PPL and participating in the recruitment and selection of staff as needed.
  • Assists the staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team in the identification of researchable clinical patient/resident care management problems and advises Research Education and Practice Coordinator and PPL.
  • Participates in research initiatives and projects related to patient/resident care and/or discipline practices as requested disseminates findings and assists in applying and implementing research findings into practice. Completes required health record reports and reports workload statistics.
  • Provides input and recommendations to the PPL regarding equipment supplies workspace and staffing requirements and advises of concerns and problems and provides suggestions to resolve problems.
  • Takes leadership role in conjunction with PPL at professional practice council meetings and advises PPL of concerns or issues at the site(s).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
