GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This is a parttime 32hour/week position responsible for maternal family health programs including prenatal and postpartum visits Welcome Home visits for newborns lactation and parenting education and case management of Children with Special Health Care needs. Adult and child immunizations longterm care nursing assessments communicable disease testing and working with Public Health Emergency Preparedness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

  • Performs nursing assessment diagnosis treatment & evaluation according to the ANAs Public Health Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Arranges for and conducts nursing clinics and classes; teaches individuals and groups about health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Determines priorities and responsibilities based on public health core functions and essential services.
  • Administers adult and child vaccines per program protocols and best practices.
  • Works with the nurse manager and public health response coordinator concerning emergency preparedness activities.
  • Provides Family Planning Services HIV/STI testing Ryan White case management TB testing Maternal and Child home visitation lactation counseling participates in local community outreach and performs LT101 assessments.
  • Performs the majority of walkin clinics applying the nursing process guidelines and orders and appropriate documentation.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:


Our ideal candidate will have a BSN with work experience in public health nursing. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming.

**BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals is required.
**Drivers license required.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of laws principles practices and techniques of professional nursing.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance of medical records charts reports and observations.
  • Knowledge of principles of the nursing process and scientific process.
  • Knowledge of applying medical diagnosis and treatment to patient care.
  • Knowledge of scientific concepts as a basis for decisionmaking.
  • Knowledge of physical biological and behavioral sciences.
  • Knowledge of evaluation services and programs according to standards.
  • Knowledge of work management and leadership theory and practice.
  • Knowledge of federal state and local laws about healthcare.
  • Knowledge of public health core functions and essential services.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Associates Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:
02 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR


Education & Experience Substitution:

35 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates Licenses Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


Must be able to:
  • Climb stairs to patient homes and drive long distances.
  • Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
  • Work evenings nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.
  • A background check including the taking of fingerprints will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation the Department of Family Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.

  • FLSA: NonExempt
  • The Wyoming Department of Health is an EVerify employer.
  • As a condition of employment the successful applicant will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved on an asneeded basis.
  • In addition the successful applicant will be required to complete an Employee Health Assessment which includes verification of immunity to vaccinepreventable diseases. If found to be nonimmune vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. Yearly influenza vaccination is also required unless medically contraindicated.
  • ** Hiring Bonus eligibility and conditions
    • New state employees and temporary employees accepting a permanent position
    • Current state employees acceptinga promotional opportunity recruitment must have been open to the public
    • One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
    • Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of 1 year from the promotion date.
    • Employees will only be eligible for 1 hiring bonus in a 12month period.
