Position Summary
The University of Nebraska Medical Center UNMC aims to hire three 3 tenureleading faculty members with expertise in different subdisciplines of Informatics including clinical research informatics bioinformatics image informatics and public health informatics with an emphasis on Machine Learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches. These faculty members will join a rich academic environment with strong links to the healthcare system poised to catalyze clinical and translational research. We anticipate hiring all three positions in. The Informatics Cluster Hire aims to develop increased collaboration across UNMC and with other partners including funding agencies the healthcare sector industry the State of Nebraska and other government agencies. As faculty members individuals will be hired into one of the involved departments that is the best fit for their experience and interests. Departments participating in the cluster hire include: Neurological Sciences Internal Medicine Pathology and Microbiology Surgery Neurosurgery Radiology and Pediatrics/Childrens Hospital and Medical Center. These and other departments at UNMC are seeking to expand the existing informatics expertise forming a team with complementary expertise to address important issues in biomedicine with access to numerous sources of data. These new faculty and UNMC will promote new levels and forms of collaboration and funding mechanisms including an infrastructure that encourages scientists from different silos to work together in high impact information science areas and establishes new research programs offices and shared spacean idea factory for all. We will work together toward a sustainable institutional framework for oversight assistance and management services to the critical mass of new hires. Successful candidates will be investigators (MD DO PhD PharmD DDS or equivalent terminal degrees) with research focused on informatics approaches the use of electronic health record EHR data large omic datasets or other highdensity data generating methods to address highimpact biomedical issues with an emphasis on clinical or clinicaltranslational research questions. They will have expertise that includes ML/AI approaches bioinformatics clinical research informatics clinical decision support population health informatics and/or the intersection of informatics and health services research. Candidates will be expected to participate in strong externallyfunded research programs in informatics as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians at UNMC and with the Great Plains IDeA Clinical and Translational Research (GP IDeA CTR network which has rich resources promoting CTR across the region. Candidates will also be expected to assist evaluate advise and mentor junior faculty scholars as well as graduate and medical students regarding research and curricular matters including participation in the Masters and Ph.D. programs in Bioinformatics and Clinical Informatics. Opportunities for participation in the Computer Sciences programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska at Lincoln are also available. Applicants with expertise/strong interest in technologyenabled approaches to enhancing informatics healthcare delivery and disease prevention and treatment in underserved vulnerable populations (e.g. rural underinsured minority) are encouraged to apply. Preferred prior experience can include: Methodologic expertise in areas such as machine learning artificial intelligence translational bioinformatics (e.g. integrating EHR /omics data) causal inference approaches and precision medicine approaches Experience in an academic medical center setting with a working understanding of the clinical educational and research missions Experience working with clinical research data Experience working with highthroughput multiomics data Experience working with clinical image data MRI fMRI MEG CT etc. Expertise in the use and linking of various sources of health data including the electronic medical record administrative/claims data and/or publicly available datasets Practical experience in the design development adoption and application of health IT in a variety of clinical and research environments. Track record of accomplishments in biomedical and/or clinical informatics with corresponding accomplishments in scholarship and peerreviewed recognition. Experience and expertise in regulatory aspects of clinical research informatics Record of leadership project management and collaboration including the ability to work effectively with administrators faculty staff residents/fellows and students. Commitment to advancing a culture and climate of diversity and inclusion and serving a diverse population. Required Qualifications
MD DO PhD PharmD DDS or equivalent. Experience working with or leading an interdisciplinary team of investigators and research personnel in research related to informatics.
