Job Description

WAVA Special Education Teacher Long Term SubstituteSY)

Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA) an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) program of Omak School District is seeking motivated and energetic WA State certified teachers to work in our innovative online educational environment. WAVAs mission is to empower every student for success in learning work and life. WAVAs core belief is that ALL students are capable of success no exceptions. WAVA teachers work primarily from their homes and must reside in WA State.

As part of their regular teaching responsibilities WAVA Special Education teachers will:

  • Have a working knowledge of the K12 curriculum and Online School as it relates to their grade level and/or grade level span and subject level assignment
  • Be knowledgeable about Common Core State Standards
  • Support parents with student placement online school set up curriculum and instructional issues
  • Assign and evaluate student work per school policies
  • Participate in the School Improvement Plan
  • Develop effective instructional tools lessons and strategies to deliver supplement and enhance provided curriculum
  • Provide synchronous direct instruction through instructional technology
  • Provide direct instruction as aligned to individual student IEP goals
  • Design monitor and evaluate student progress as related to the IEP
  • Incorporate evidenced based practices as related to online environments
  • Provide technologybased instructional supports
  • Develop and implement student IEPs
  • Provide preevaluation and evaluation materials to determine eligibility for Special Education
  • Initiate monitor and document required homeschool communications
  • Conduct monthly progress conferences to assess each students learning progress learning style and any other relevant academic social or developmental issues
  • Respond within 24 hours to parent inquiries during regular work week
  • Participate in weekly teacher conferences/meetings with the Special Programs Administrator
  • Attend regularly scheduled facetoface professional development days 68 times per year and weekly online staff meetings
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to develop and deliver appropriate instruction to best meet individual student needs
  • Professionally and effectively communicate in writing to students families and staff
  • Report student progress towards IEP goals
  • Communicate with colleagues and families about individual student needs
  • Develop student IEPs in online system (IEP Online)
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation (in various online platforms)
  • Alert leadership team of any concerns about student progress and attendance
  • Provide consistent documentation regarding progress monitoring of all student IEP goals
  • Complete semester and end of year report cards
  • Complete IEP progress reports as directed by IEP
  • Organize orientation training social and educational activities for students and families.
  • Support students in school activities such as open houses expos information session state assessments and orientations.
  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
  • Act as a school resource for best practices in intervention
  • Lead schedule and organize IEP meetings in accordance with due dates
  • Work with the administration to prepare students for state assessments
  • Serve as proctors for sitebased proctored exams
  • Provide up to date accommodations/modifications for state testing sites
  • Administer state and schoolwide assessments
  • Assess students per WAVA policy

Requirements:

  • Valid WA State Teaching Certificate in Special Education
  • Shared view of the virtual academys mission
  • Strong content and subjectmatter knowledge
  • An ability to support and guide adults as well as students
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and timemanagement skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel MS Word and Outlook and experience using them in a professional capacity
