Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & InstructionJOB GOAL:To assist the Superintendent in the development promotion and implementation of the districts priorities and objectives as they relate to the instruction programs for students and teachers. FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Provides leadership assistance in support of the Superintendent for the development promotion and implementation of the districts priorities and objectives.2.Assists the Superintendent in directing improving and coordinating the districts instructional and assessment programs to improve student achievement.3.Assist the Superintendent in fulfilling the goals of the districtlevel strategic plan as well as help facilitate updates to the Strategic Plan.4.Assists the Superintendent with all public relations and informational issues by maintaining a liaison with social professional civic volunteer and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.5.Makes recommendations to the Superintendent for program and policy changes.6.Develop a system of program evaluation as needed.7.Keeps informed on educational trends and research findings.8.Keeps the Superintendent informed regarding all state instructional mandates regulations requirements etc. 9.Work collaboratively with the Superintendent and Business Administrator in defining school budgets and presenting the school department budget to the community.10.Coordinates a communication process to facilitate interaction among teachers in different schools and to guarantee sharing of ideas gained by individual teachers through conference attendance workshop experiences and content courses.11.Assists with summer school program and works with all teachers in all alternative programs both curricular and cocurricular.12.Provides districtwide direction coordination and leadership in the areas of curriculum instruction supervision and assessment.13.Utilizes strategic planning to establish priorities goals for educational services and prepare short and longrange plans to accomplish these goals.14.Aids in the development of sound educational programming and practices and assists staff members in the design implementation and evaluation of programs.15.Regularly visit the schools to observe instruction and recommend improvements.16.Supervises and directs the professional development and inservice education programs for members of the certified and noncertified staff of the school district.17.Attends all regular School Committee meetings and other meetings as may be directed by the Superintendent.18.Interprets the educational program of the school district to the School Committee the professional staff and the community in concert with the Superintendent.19.Studies and evaluates and as appropriate recommends adoption of new instructional materials methods and programs and assists in budget preparation for newly approved instructional programs supplies equipment and materials. 20.Supervises in conjunction with principals the work of all itinerant instructional specialists not on permanent assignment to a single school building.21.Serve as District Level Testing Coordinator ELL and Title 1 Director and PLP Coordinator.22.Responsible for organizing districtwide testing programs reviewing evaluating and reporting assessment outcomes and for other evaluative measures used by the schools.23.Assists in the recruitment screening hiring training and assigning of instructional personnel.24.Coordinates all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum improvement.25.Communicates to the Superintendent the requirements and needs of the district as perceived by staff members.26.Completes periodic reports required by federal state and local agencies and others as directed by the Superintendent.27.Develop in conjunction with others as appropriate all district level federal and state grants.28.Develop implement and evaluate all grantfunded programs as required by RIDE.29.Participates in grievance hearings and collective bargaining as deemed necessary by the Superintendent.30.Assists Superintendent and administrators in procedures to assure compliance with contractual and/or state regulations relative to layoffs recalls involuntary transfers assignment of teachers through Job Fairs etc.31.Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent may assignTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Contractual as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the School Committee.EVALUATION:As developed by the Superintendent and approved by the School Committee.SALARY:To be negotiated with the Superintendent and School Committee.
