Purpose of Position

This position listing is for Summer 2025 employment for the Summer Resident Assistant position.

This is a parttime nonbenefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. Unsolicited applications to this posting will NOT be considered.

A Summer Resident Assistant at the University of North Dakota (UND) is student who lives on the floor/wing to serve as a primary resource for welcoming and engaging summer students to their hall building community and assists with fostering a connection to the University. Summer Resident Assistants are responsible for building a positive community on their floor and within the building; assisting residents with any concerns; helping them connect with each other and UND; being an educator by promoting and supporting intentional learning through a residential curriculum by providing social activities for residents to attend; having knowledge of and upholding University policy; serving as a resource and/or liaison for the University through desk hours; and participating in an on call duty rotation. In addition to assisting residents a Summer Resident Assistant will complete departmental projects such as preparing for fall staff training organizing office space checking students in and out of assigned room spaces submitting incident reports as needed and completing furniture inventory processes. The Summer Resident Assistant reports directly to the Resident Director (RD) and reports indirectly to the Associate Director of Residence Life and Director of Housing & Residence Life. They serve on a staff of four to eight. Summer Resident Assistants work approximately 25 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build leadership skills in their role as peer mentors to students conference guests and campers on their wing/floor/hall.
  • Develop effective interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated by their ability to reach out to residents participate in meetings and work on a team.
  • Develop written communications skills to write concise factual and nonjudgmental incident report forms and other administrative tasks.
  • Develop problem solving and critical thinking skills to recognize and respond to emergencies and resident concerns and connect students to campus resources.
  • Develop the skills to plan budget and organize programs and activities for residents to build community and a sense of belonging.
  • Actively support and demonstrate the Housing & Residence Life Mission Vision Core Values and Diversity Statements.
  • Maintain a supportive and cooperative attitude regarding fellow staff members and supervisors.
  • Represent the University and the Office of Housing & Residence Life in a positive manner.

Desk and OnCall Responsibilities

  • Work desk shifts in accordance to expectations.
  • Log in and out equipment.
  • Enter reported work orders into The Housing Director Mobile (THD Mobile).
  • When assigned a duty shift be oncall as assigned.
  • Complete at least two sets of rounds and be visible in the community during duty coverage.
    • On at 10pm and the other AFTER 12am

Administrative and Project Responsibilities

  • Attend all weekly staff meetings as scheduled by your supervisor.
  • Assist with Summer Orientation by providing building tours or serving as a departmental liaison at resource fair tabling.
  • Regularly assist with departmental projects such as Welcome Weekend and movein preparation Microfridge deliveries furniture inventories and movement building key audits etc.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned.

Required Competencies

  • Open to all majors.
  • Verification of college course cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at start of employment.
  • Must have been enrolled in Spring 2025 and be enrolled as a fulltime student at UND for
    Fall 2025.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older by May 1 2025.
  • Must have lived in oncampus housing for at least one full semester prior to starting the position.
  • Must meet residence hall eligibility requirement and reside in assigned room throughout the terms of their employment.
  • Applicants may not hold outside employment internship CFI or student teach during their term of employment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have open and flexible availability. Work will require regular night work with occasional weekend and weekday work.
  • Must have clear availability to work camp and conference groups checkin and checkout shifts which vary by group.
  • Must have a clear availability to work Summer Orientation tours and resource fair tabling
    on July 1618 and July 2124.
  • Must be mature responsible dependable and punctual.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills (after provided training) with pertinent software.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to accept and follow directions.
  • Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Capable of instituting emergency protocols.
  • Ability to positively represent UND and the office of Housing & Residence Life.
  • Team player who is willing to assist in completing tasks.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of campus and community resources and facilities.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to applicants not enrolled in summer classes.
    • If applicants want to take summer courses while employed they may take up to 6 credits
      1 class per summer session).
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Prior UND Housing & Residence Life employment experience preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of University of North Dakota policies and Residence Hall policies.
