Summary Statement:
In collaboration with the Superintendent the Chief Academic Officer provides leadership in developing and implementing educational programs and services to ensure students in Evergreen Public Schools graduate worldcompetitive. Duties may include supervision and evaluation of other administrative staff as delegated by the Superintendent.
Essential Functions:
- Leads the implementation of the Evergreen Public Schools Strategic Plan Pillars of Teaching and Learning and School Environment.
- Leads by emulating the districts core values in order to actualize its intent to graduate all students post diploma ready.
- Guides the planning development implementation and evaluation of instructional programs/services to ensure every child in Evergreen Public Schools achieves their potential.
- Develops and maintains a positive relationship with students staff parents and community by modeling respect cooperation and professionalism with others recognizing the personal achievements and professional contributions of others and demonstrating knowledge of a sensitivity toward individuals and groups from all racial ethnic/cultural national socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Stays current with developments in curriculum/instruction.
- Establishes a set of culturally responsive standard operating procedures practices and routines.
- Provides and/or facilitates training of staff with regard to the most effective practices which lead to higher student achievement regardless of race ethnicity socioeconomic status or prior academic achievement.
- Provides leadership to ensure understanding and promotion of authentically engaging work that aligns with Evergreens Strategic Plan.
- Recommends solutions to a variety of complex issues to ensure every child is successful.
- Serves as an effective resource to staff and community for educational issues.
- Develops relationships maintaining active participation with professional civic social volunteer and other community agencies/groups in order to utilize their unique perspectives and abilities in the education of Evergreens students.
- Leads for inclusive programming for students qualified for special education services and multilingual services.
- Reports the status of district programs to the leadership teams as they relate to the beliefs and commitments of the school district.
- Monitors a variety of instructional and operations programs to ensure they are consistent with the direction set by the Board of Directors and the Evergreen Strategic Plan.
- Works closely with the Chief Operations Officer in relation to union issues including serving on the districts negotiations team.
- Attends Board of Directors meetings and prepares reports for the Board as tasked by the superintendent.
- Serves on the Superintendents Leadership Team.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of planning and leading the district in achieving the goals set by the Board of Directors.
- Nurtures a school environment that celebrates respects and values diversity where teaching and learning are made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
- Publicly draws attention to all equity gaps that exist for various groups of students with plans to address their elimination.
- Initiates activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence of staff informing and expanding teaching practices within classrooms.
Qualifications:
- Holds or is eligible to hold Washington State administrative credentials.
- Earned Doctorate preferred.
- Minimum ten years experience in education including six years administrative experience.
- Minimum of five years building principal experience.
- Minimum of five years teaching experience.
- Demonstrated principled leadership and vision; commitment to lifelong learning for self and others.
- Demonstrated ability in effective written and oral communications with diverse community members to include students staff parents and community stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to and engage with a diverse multicultural and multiracial community and to work side by side and foster strong positive relationships with parents staff students and the public.
- Demonstrated ethical decision making ability.
- Demonstrated interest and ability to be an effective leader in a culturally diverse educational community; appreciation for the Evergreen school community.
- Demonstrated success in working as a member of a leadership team.
- Demonstrated respect for the Boards positions and priorities.
- Ability to engage and work with the Board as appropriate demonstrating respect for their community knowledge and expertise.
- Demonstrated understanding of current educational methodologies and trends.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Washington State education reform policies procedures and requirements (PLCs TPEP Common Core Smarter Balanced Assessment etc..
- Experience in developing and facilitating engaging professional development for staff and a commitment to equity while building a diverse and inclusive school community.
- Demonstrated expertise in the implementation of educational technologies to enhance learning.
- Demonstrated belief all children can learn and achieve and are the districts customers.
- Demonstrated ability to move the districts current agenda forward with solid yet creative approaches.
- Ability to present information effectively both orally and in written communications.
