The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is seeking a friendly and highly experiencedSecurity Officer to join our dedicated team here in our amazing museum.
Job Description:
The Security Officer Iposition is responsible forensuring a safe and secure environment for guests team members volunteers Museum property and assets including our 4.3 million scientific artifacts while still providing exceptional customer service.
We are a 24/7 and 365 day per year operation.
The Denver Museum of Nature & Sciences Security Department has three FullTimeSecurity Officer Ipositions available:
- DayShift: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM$20.00/hour)
- Opportunity for overtime at time and half pay!
What the job entails:
- Provide directions and assistance to employees guests and community members.
- Provides excellent customer service to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for customers.
- Explains and enforces Museum policies to guests uses deescalation techniques to address issues and resolve conflicts.
- Maintains accurate security records within legal compliance ensures incident reports meet security standards.
- Demonstrates excellent decisionmaking skills generally and while under stressful conditions.
- May require working overtime weekends and rotating shifts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of experience in security military or equivalent related service is required.
- Basic proficiency with webenabled applications (email Microsoft Office suite) required.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsin order to deal effectively with colleagues visitors and customers
- Ability to multitask effectively during busy times exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations
- Experience using deescalation techniques to address issues and resolve conflicts
- Ability to maintain guest employee and organization confidentiality
- Ability to work under pressure or stressful situations
Working Conditions:
- Lifting requirements: Medium physical effort required by handling up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Ability to walk 68 miles/day to patrol the Museum and property.
- Ability to work outside as needed in all types of weather.
- Stand or sit: must be able to remain in a stationary position 80 of the time)
- Ability to move someone in a wheelchair or relocate an injured party to a safer area.
- Ability to climb ladders and investigate issues in an emergency.
- Ability to obtainFirst Aid & CPR certification
