Disability Support Worker for complexneeds client in Berwick.
We are currently seeking 23 skilled personable team members with nursing quals/studying (or much experience with complex clients) to work with our wonderful client in Berwick.
Living independently (with a family member) our client is an intelligent friendly and wellliked man who is a quadriplegic (cerebral palsy) is blind and doesnt speak. He needs people skilled in 24/7 complex care as he is now healthy but still recovering from spending many months in hospital and is vulnerable to more ill health. He requires thickened foods extra care with swallowing and management of his epilepsy 12 seizures per month) and chronic back pain.
He is a bright happy guy with many hobbies and interests (no behaviours of concern) and his current team are valued upbeat people who will welcome you and teach you the specifics of his care (minimum 56 shadowshifts). We are offering regular long shifts (casual or permanent) paid training sessions and a wonderful company to work for in exchange for a willingness to learn his specific needs and be a reliable safetydriven and fun support worker.
We are looking for a variety of shifts to be filled but particularly active overnights (generally 9.15pm 7.15am) evening shifts 4.30pm 9.30pm) and some week and weekend day shifts.
Duties:
All aspects of personal care hand feeding changing pads bed baths/showering dressing toileting etc.
Full hoisttransfer manual handling ceilinghoist used to lift into wheelchair commode etc.
Encouraging and supporting personal skills through hobbies interests and boardgames. (Lots of reading boardgames space docos Harry Potter Star Wars and Big Bang Theory!
Accompanying him into the community to theatre shows doctors appointments cafes church etc. (Wheelchairtaxi transport)
Administering medications (including oxygen) which often need to be modified (crushed or thickened) for his consumption.
While 2 people are rostered on each morning you must be comfortable completing other shifts and the occasional hoist transfer on your own. (He only weighs 43kg so this is generally not an issue)
Taking general observations EG: oxygen and pulse levels BP and respiration rate when required.
To support a personcentered approach. Choice is everything to us as is his control over his surroundings activities clothing food selection etc
Willingness to learn and implement his different protocols and follow his daily routines EG: Epilepsy plan asthma plan pain protocols anxiety process communication book techniques etc
Domestic duties such as food preparation keeping the kitchen clean doing bed linen changes and laundry. (A house cleaner does all main cleaning and most meals are preprepared for you)
We are still being covidsafe so we take daily temperature wear N95 masks and take weekly RATs (provided)
Our client has a pet dog (medium size and does not shed hair) who is sweet and much loved but who does bark at the front door.
Required skills:
1.Be a great team player with an excellent work ethic and willing to learn our clients specific needs.
2.Have either nursing training or be studying this area or have significant agedcare/disability experience
3.We love hiring people from other cultures especially if they have excellent conversational and written English skills and are familiar with the Australian way of life.
4.Experience (not just training) in manual handling including the use of hoist/sling transfers showering/toileting someone in a commode and changing pads.
5.Have less than a 45min travel time to Berwick (near Eden Rise shopping center).
6.Have each of the below certificates (or be able to have them prior to starting)
All applicants must have prior to employment:
A current First Aid Certificate (which must be maintained at own expense)
A NDIS Worker Screening Check
Completion of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards online worker training modules
Medication management medication administration and manual handling training.
