Primary Purpose
The Writing Tutor is responsible for the support of academic success of the College students. Provide personalized attention and offer own pace learning to enrolled students within the College district.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Be in the Writing Center ready to tutor during scheduled hours each week. Follow the policies of the COCC Tutoring and Testing department governing tutors. Follow the CRLA Tutor Code of Ethics. Tutor COCC students in reading writing and study skills to support instruction. Complete 10 hours of College Reading & Learning Association Tutor training within the first year of employment (paid time). Be or become familiar with academic writing assignments and structures. Perform other essential functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelors degree in English or a similar field. Experience: Proficiency with writing grammar spelling editing and proofreading. Must complete 10 hours of College Reading & Learning Association tutor training within the first year of employment (paid time).
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with academic writing at the community college level or with COCC writing curriculum. Experience as a writing teacher or as a professional writer. Experience tutoring writing at the community college level. Experience with academic research. CRLA tutor training certifications. Appropriate interpersonal skills to work with stressed student populations.
