Assistant Professor of Psychology
POSITION: Western Colorado University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Behavioral and Social Sciences department. We seek a colleague with clinical counseling or related work experience who has the skills and desire to teach clinicallyoriented coursework. The candidate should have a completed doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university in clinical or counseling psychology or a related field. Licenseeligibility is a plus. The Behavioral and Social Sciences department provides a supportive compassionate and multidisciplinary environment for dedicated professionals who are committed to living in the rural Rocky Mountains. The successful candidate will be able to deliver welldesigned courses in clinical psychology psychopathology psychological testing and forensic psychology. They will also be capable of supervising internships and developing and teaching special topics courses. Additional duties include academic advising and university service.
Qualified applicants will potentially be able to reduce their teaching load by contributing clinicallyoriented or related expertise to the greater community. The Western Slope of Colorado has significant unmet behavioral health needs including clinical supervisory position (if licensed) and contributions to community BH initiatives. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to teach and supervise graduate students in our Master of Behavioral Science in Rural Community Health program. Such responsibilities would be accompanied by additional compensation.
The successful applicant will help to nurture an interdisciplinary culture in the Behavioral & Social Sciences department and will contribute to Westerns mission and strategic plan which includes promoting mental health for all collegiality student mentorship inclusive and interdisciplinary teaching creating professional pathways and growing enrollment. This position is designed to heed the Colorado Governors call for universities to assist in increasing and diversifying the states behavioral health workforce.
The Psychology program is housed within Westerns Behavioral and Social Sciences department along with sociology politics and government history and geography. The department also offers an MS degree in Rural Community Health which provides additional opportunities for teaching and collaboration. QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in Clinical Counseling or a closely related field (PhD or PsyD) is required. Applicants must provide evidence of their commitment to undergraduate education excellence in teaching and willingness to be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
SALARY/BENEFITS: $62000$64000 base salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for potential additional compensation from outside the University via partnerships with communitybased service organizations. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.Western has acquired local rental agreements for newly hired employees moving to the Gunnison Valley which can serve as bridge housing.
