Title: Dangerous Goods Specialist
Department/Job Function: Compliance Regulatory
Reports to: Senior Manager Dangerous Goods
Job Purpose: The Dangerous Goods Specialist will be responsible for assisting Projects and Consignments involving dangerous goods and will work with all Branches & Depots to maintain compliance with the IATA dangerous goods regulations and the US DOT 49CFR.
The Dangerous Goods Specialist will function as a member of the Regulatory compliance team and will report to the Senior Manager Dangerous Goods.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance to internal and external customers on Dangerous Goods Regulations (Local and International Rules Air and Road Modes) to address daily questions.
  • Attend and participate in Feasibility Assessment Sessions at initial stage with Business Developers or Feasibility Teams and ensure a followup at implementation phase with Project Team Leaders.
  • Verify accuracy of Dangerous Goods Declarations.
  • Verify compliance on packaging solutions supplied by Marken in collaboration with the Technical Operations Team
  • Perform Audits on Shipments (Global level) on a weekly basis using internal shipping system and report escalate results.
  • Visit regional Branches & Depots to verify procedures management involvement training records and to test knowledge of Dangerous Goods qualified persons.
  • Assist in in updating the global list of DG trained persons.
  • Open and follow CAPA at any observed deviation or incident occurrences.
  • Edit Guidance on the Internal Knowledge Base on the Company MS Teams platform.
  • Create and/or review SOPs.
  • Create Dangerous Goods Awareness materials attention internal or external customers.
  • Assist regional Branches/Depots in arranging Dangerous Goods training session with external providers.
  • Reports and escalate Dangerous Goods issues or emergency situations in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
  • Valid IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations certification (expiry every 24 months) and US DOT 49CFR HazMat Employee Certification (expiry every 36 months).
  • Combination of education robust experience and knowledge in Dangerous Goods Regulations so to be able to read and find the applicable provisions or exceptions thru the maze of regulations.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft office products (Excel Word PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Ability to present slides to both internal and external listeners.
  • Individuals for this role should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Individuals must be respectful of others and be well respected by their peers.
  • The Individual should be comfortable working remote independently and be able to manage multiple activities occurring simultaneously.
