Job Description:

Upward Bound (UB) RAs will live in an ISU residence hall during the month of June while they oversee and mentor high school participants in the Upward Bound summer program. RAs will supervise students in the residence hall organize group activities accompany students to on and off campus classes and activities and provide mentorship to students. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development growth and skill achievement of UB participants.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

• Create and lead daily group activities
• Identify and respond to behavior issues
• Maintain accurate program records including schedule changes incident reports activity documentation and daily attendance.
• Serve as the oncall RA during assigned evening activities (oncall responsibilities rotate with other RAs)
• Provide UB Director and Assistant Director with feedback on student engagement and behavior
• Know enforce and follow all safety guidelines associated with the summer program and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for student safety and their whereabouts at all times
• Ensure that the residence hall areas are kept clean organized and free of litter
• Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the program.
• Maintain a safe workplace and ensure the safety of all participants
• Maintain a supportive and inviting space for all students
• Ensure inclusion of all UB participants in daily activities. Activities may include crafts athletic activities games swimming field trips etc.
• Assist UB Assistant Director with daytoday logistics as needed

Work Environment:

Must live in ISU residence hall June 8July 3 (room and board paid by Upward Bound). This job will operate in an ISU residence hall academic buildings recreational areas and off campus cultural facilities. Some hours will be spent outdoors. Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in activities which include but are not limited to escorting students around the ISU campus physical education classes swimming team building initiatives and physical games and activities.

Travel:

An outofstate college and cultural trip is tentatively planned for July 711 in Atlanta GA. RAs are invited on the trip pending their job performance during the summer program. All expenses are paid by Upward Bound and RAs are compensated for 40 hours of work during that time.

Job Timeline:

• June 26: Training sessions (virtual and inperson) 810 hours total
• June 8July 3: 40 hours/week
• July 711: Chaperone an outofstate college and cultural trip

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
