Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institutedesignated cancer center in Washington.

Fred Hutchs Philanthropy program raises funds for cancer and related disease research care and education to help Fred Hutch become the worlds best cancer center. Since the April 2022 merger that led to the formation of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Fred Hutch has served as the cancer program for UW Medicine and Philanthropy is proud to raise funds that fuel the adult oncology program on behalf of both Fred Hutch and UW Medicine.

Following board approval of an ambitious 10year comprehensive campaign our team of more than 130 will grow to 160 over the next two years. Philanthropy staff implement highperforming relationshipbased fundraising programs that engage and inspire thousands of supporters who are passionate about preventing and eliminating cancer and infectious disease. Our FY25 goals include increasing our annual fundraising deepening our patient family fundraising and advancing the first phase of our comprehensive campaign through Fred Hutchs 50th anniversary in 2025. Our success is made possible through a deep commitment to an inclusive environment and operational excellence.

The Assistant Director Gift and Estate Management is a member of the Advancement Services program and reports to the Program Director Gift and Estate Management. The Advancement Services program maintains and strengthens Philanthropys infrastructure by managing analyzing and leveraging the data needed to inform organizational strategy and conduct the operations that engage and steward Fred Hutch stakeholders.

The Assistant Director Gift and Estate Management collaborates with departmental leaders and implementing partners to advance Philanthropy initiatives and supports highimpact programs and projects tied to fundraising and fundraisingadjacent efforts. This role partners with the Program Director Gift and Estate Management to direct gift agreement and estate management processes to ensure donor intent is recognized organizational policies and norms are followed and that philanthropic gifts are allocated appropriately. The Assistant Director Gift and Estate Management develops gift agreements and related gift acceptance documentation manages open estates and trusts and leads the of strategic operational and compliance related projects.

Some travel and weekend and evening work will be required.

This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely with a minimum two days per week at our South Lake Union campus.

Responsibilities

Primary/Essential Duties

  • Lead the implementation and maintain processes to ensure gift agreements comply with established gift acceptance policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate open estates and trusts with direct counsel from the Office of General Counsel. Build and manage relationships with attorneys and paralegal staff as well as trustees personal representatives and nextofkin.
  • Oversee implementation and analysis of processes to ensure philanthropic gifts are allocated appropriately and according to donor intent.
  • Develop customized bequest language gift annuity structures and charitable trust illustrations; address and anticipate complexities.
  • Partner with leadership collaborators in Philanthropy and other departments and/or external partners to manage and grow a key program within Philanthropy.
  • Lead the operational of the program including planning tracking deliverables ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget convening and aligning stakeholders troubleshooting and anticipating and mitigating obstacles.
  • Help evaluate and strengthen relevant Philanthropy operations and systems; establish and implement new or revised procedures and processes when needed.
  • Oversee implementation of new initiatives and maintain/expand current program; stay abreast of and incorporate industry and organizational best practices.
  • Build trusted relationships to work effectively across multiple teams.
  • Supervise employee workload and daytoday responsibilities to achieve program goals.
  • Help document and maintain SOPs and records for historical analysis and information purposes.
  • Serve as a leader of others; this role may have program and/or fundraising responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • Five years related experience managing programs and/or people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong analytical skills and datadriven thinking.
  • Proficiency writing and editing legal documents and contracts.
  • Understanding of fundraising standards and methodologies gift recording and IRS regulations as they pertain to charitable giving.
  • Restricted gift accounting grants sponsored research and/or finance methodology experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit research or health care environment with campaign planning or campaign implementation experience.
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational and information management skills.
  • Strong attention to a high level of detail and quality of work.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively within a complex organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with a CRM Raisers Edge/RENXT or related fundraising software.
  • Ability to handle and respect confidential and sensitive information.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $82846 to $124238 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
