Summary of Job Duties:
The Lab Support Technician II will be expected to perform clerical duties including but not limited to triaging phone calls triaging specimens assigning identification numbers to specimens along with patient name and specimen type reviewing verifying and logging all incoming consultation cases from outside facilities into the UAMS system and verifying patient status insurance coverage and proper authorizations prior to services. The LST II is responsible for collecting patient information and data within regulation as well as guaranteeing patient identification throughout every process. The LST II works to support other staff members and the department as needed.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED plus two 2 years of laboratory or Assistant in a Clinical Laboratory or 60 hours of completed higher education in a health sciences programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous anatomic pathology gross room or morgue experience
Additional Information:
- Prepares maintains and performs function checks on analyzers laboratory equipment and automation equipment.
- Provides technical information about specimen collection sample transport sample identification required documents test methods and other related technical information to registered nurses physicians and laboratory clients.
- Receives patient samples and conducts analysis of biological samples. Uses laboratory computer systems to order tests generate results generate reports track and retrieve specimens and document communications.
- Performs quality control and calibrations assesses for acceptability and takes corrective action as required. Performs basic troubleshooting on equipment used for patient testing and automation equipment. Works with service representatives as needed to facilitate instrument repairs.
