  • Job Title:Paraprofessional SPED Autism Assigned by Special Education Coordinator Pay Program: Support Staff FLSA Status: NonExempt Reports to: Building Leader Pay Range: CH 8 $19.39 $21.64 Work Year: 177 Days / 7.5 Hours

    VISION: To Engage Equip and Empower Each and Every Student Each and Every Day.

    SUMMARY: This position will assist and support the special education teacher general education teacher or related service providers on the Autism Spectrum that have significant support needs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.     Job Tasks Descriptions
    1. Assist with the delivery of instructional activities as assigned and developed by certified/licensed professional practitioners. Assist the teacher to design and implement an appropriate learning environment incorporating appropriate assistive technologies and multisensory materials. Implement communication devices or processes. Assist with mobility and orientation of students. Create & implement a variety of documents and materials (e.g. games schedules visual supports observation and success logs etc. for the purpose of documenting activities and promoting student growth and development. Implement scientifically research based interventions
    1. Assist the teacher in implementing positive behavior plans and systems appropriate to the individual student.
    1. Collects ongoing daily data on IEP goals/objectives for the purpose of reviewing with SPED teacher and ensuring IEP requirements are being met and are adequate for the students needs. Assist the teacher to complete appropriate documentation and data collections.
    1. Assist and appropriately manage aggressive and/or selfinjurious behaviors by students.
    1. Provide supervision on bus & during loading and unloading of buses outside breaks passing periods and other outofclassroom activities as assigned by the supervising teacher.
    1. Provide personal assistance to students which may include dispensing of medications meal preparation feeding or toileting/diapering.
    1. Participate in team planning meetings and development activities as needed. Participate in varied field trips/community outing as needed.
    1. Serves as a technical resource to other staff on the subject of Autism Spectrum Disorder for the purpose of providing support information and/or training and ensuring that the students needs are met.
    1. Other duties as assigned.
    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    • Minimum two years of experience working with students; preference given for prior school district experience;
    • Bilingual oral and written skills English/Spanish are desirable;
    • *Acceptable demonstration of education and/or experience is at the sole discretion of the district.

    LICENSES REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
    • Valid Colorado drivers license or other form of identification required;
    • Successful passing of criminal background check required for hire;
    • Small Vehicle Permit preferred;
    • Quality Behavior Solutions certification (QBS) must be obtained within 60 days of hire;
    • CPR Frist Aid preferred or receive within six months of employment;
    • Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by supervisor.
    TECHNICAL SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
    • Welldeveloped oral communication and phone etiquette skills in English;
    • Welldeveloped customer service public relations and interpersonal relationship building skills;
    • Strong ability to use deescalation techniques and to defuse stressful and possibly volatile situations;
    • Strong professional writtencommunication and group presentation skills;
    • Strong working knowledge of laws and statutes as outlined in the:
      • Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015
      • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
      • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA 1996;
    • Strong ability to apply basic math skills and calculations with a highdegree of accuracy;
    • Ability to apply and explain the application of Human Resources policies regarding employment including benefits;
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job especially as related to personal issues;
    • Ability to work independently as needed with minimal direction and/or supervision;
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner;
    • Ability to be adaptable and flexible with critical thinking and problemsolving capabilities;
    • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies building and department procedures;
    • Ability to communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds;
    • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace follow safety rules practice safe work habits utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

    MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals;
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with office software such as word processing and spreadsheets;
    • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment such as telephones copier fax machine Email etc.
