Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION

    ***Must be at least 19 years old to apply***

    BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision of the Pool Manager and the Aquatics Supervisor the Lifeguard Instructor will teach American Red Cross Lifeguard courses at Roger Carter Community Center.

    DUTIES:

    1. Lead American Red Cross Lifeguard and American Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification courses.
    2. Responsible for developing lesson plans and managing timelines for material.
    3. Lead six to ten students per class
    4. Monitor activities provide instructions and prevent accidents in the aquatics facility
    5. Must possess a good working relationship with American Red Cross
    6. Record and organize accurate records concerning attendance accident/incident/injury reports and participant/student information.
    7. Maintain security of American Red Cross testing materials and participants completed tests.
    8. Maintain a clean safe orderly facility and class
    9. Assist with planning attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
    10. Promote aquatic programs and center memberships.
    11. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor including abiding to uniform requirements.
    12. Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors.

    QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
    • Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard
    • Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard Instructor.
    • Preemployment/employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge (including but not limited to: swim 300 yards nonstop ability to tread water for 2 minutes without hands backboarding skills swim 20 yards pick up 10pound brick off bottom and swim it back within 1 minute and 40 seconds lifeguard written test).
    • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Good decisionmaker.
    • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
    • Understand and abide by the Departments customer service standards.
    • Maintain personal physical endurance and agility necessary to perform job functions.
    • Must be at least 19 years old.

    EXPERIENCE:
    • Must have previous experience as a Lifeguard.
    • Experience as an Assistant Pool Manager or Pool Manager preferred.
    • Prior teaching of American Red Cross Lifeguard courses preferred.

    EDUCATION: High school diploma; some college preferred.

    RATE OF PAY: Contingent Paraprofessional
    Salary commensurate with experience
    $16.00 $21.25 per hour
