Job Description
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) is a division of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation at Virginia Tech. OSP provides a comprehensive array of administrative support services to the university to help faculty and staff obtain and manage grants and contracts from external sponsors who provide the funding for the universitys research projects. OSP functions as a steward of Virginia Techs research portfolio and is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and projects comply with federal and state laws and regulations the sponsors policies and terms and conditions and university policies and procedures.
We are seeking a detailoriented OSP support specialist to support the Financial Management team. Please see the below description for more details.
The associate of theFinancial Managementteam serves as part of a team responsible for billing financial reporting receivable/collection and fiscal closeout of research awards in accordance with sponsored award requirements.
Responsibilities include review of financial terms and invoicing requirements of award documents in order to prepare accurate invoices and financial reports in accordance with University and sponsor requirements. Review of monthly transactions to ensure compliance with award terms. Fiscal reconciliation for award closeout and final invoice submission. Account receivable management to ensure accurate application and receipt of payments. Use of University Banner applications to generate invoices as well as various online sponsor invoicing systems for submission of invoices and reports.
The position will use tools such as Virginia Techs Banner Finance system My Journal system Hokiemart and several inhouse systems as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Excel Outlook and Word) and Adobe to perform daily tasks.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and/or coursework in accounting auditing business management or bookkeeping.
Demonstrated experience using office software suites such as spreadsheets calendaring/email and word processing.
Strong work ethic attention to detail good communication skills and ability to work both individually and as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with federal and nonfederal grants and/or contract regulations.
Project management and/or billing and reporting experience.
Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
Associates degree or equivalent relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Additional Information
The position is considered parttime and is currently not eligible for benefits. An hourly rate is paid for hours worked and total hours worked from May 1Apr. 30 is limited to 1500 hours averaging 29 hours per week.
The position is hybrid and will require the completion of a telework agreement in accordance with Policy 4325 Alternative Work Site and Telework Policy. The hybrid work schedule will be confirmed following an onsite training period.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
