Description

Position Summary

Walsh University and its growing DeVille School of Business invites applications (rank open) for a nontenuretrack professional position in sports management beginning the fall of 2025. The preferred candidate will ideally have experience in a sportsrelated business. Applicants who hold a degree in management marketing quantitative methods or similar degree are preferred.

The successful candidate should be experienced and comfortable teaching in an environment that includes a catholic worldview as well as integrated and experiential learning pedagogy.

Walsh University is a Catholic Institution which offers liberal arts undergraduate graduate and adult completion programs and is dedicated to educating its students to become leaders in service to others through a valuebased education with an international perspective in the JudeoChristian tradition.

The sports management major boasts the second most students in the DSoB and is its fastest growing major.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the Dean the successful candidate will play a vital role in the design and instruction of courses in both the business core and the sports management major of the DeVille School of Business at Walsh University. The successful candidate will engage in teachingrelated responsibilities and duties which include but are not limited to:

  • Instructing 24 credit hours 12 credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters along with an appropriate expectation for scholarship or professional development (based upon rank)
  • Teaching specialization in sports management. Additional teaching skills in marketing or quantitative methods is preferred.
  • Teaching developing and revising courses and curriculum for graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Participating in assurance of learning
  • Engaging with students inside of and outside of the classroom mentor students advise students
  • Attending and actively participating in general activities of the DeVille School of Business
  • Actively engaging in ongoing professional development in the field of instruction
  • The successful candidate will engage in professional development activities through research or otherwise with the University and DeVille School of Business missions and with specialized accreditation expectations.
  • The successful candidate will engage in service activities which include but are not limited to providing engagement with students and professional assistance to the profession community University and DeVille School of Business in accordance with his/her professional acumen and breadth of experience and will attend and actively participate in University governance activities.
  • We are also searching for an MBA director. If our new MBA director is hired with a sports management background then this position will not be filled. Candidates increase their chances in the search if they apply for both postings.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae and possess the following:

  • Professional and/or teaching experience in the field of sports management additional background in marketing or quantitative methods preferred.
  • Ability to teach at all levels of sports management introductory through advanced at the undergraduate level. Online teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of current theory and practice in the field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in engaging with students
  • The ability to maintain specialized business accreditation requirements.

Education:

A Masters degree in management sports management or similar (MSM MBA etc. terminal degree is a bonus (PhD DBA etc.

Work Experience:

Professional experience in a sportsrelated business setting where experiences are aligned with the above teaching responsibilities is heavily preferred

Skills and abilities:

  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
