PURPOSE
The Director of University Seminar and Retention is the primary position responsible for administration of the University Seminar consisting of 1000 course level offerings for all First Time Seminar Experience (FYSE). The position will work with other areas in the Office of Student Success and collaborate with other divisions/offices on campus to develop and initiate retention strategies and initiatives. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Success and is a member of the leadership team for the Office of Student Success within Academic Affairs.

DESCRIPTION
Functional Area 1: Administer University Seminar

Job Duties
Plan and implement University Seminar classes
Identify and recruit qualified instructors for University Seminar
Collaborate with Colleges/Schools to develop the University Seminar schedule
Oversee entry of Seminar sections into Banner following University procedures
Oversee workload processes associated with FYSE courses
Communicate with instructors to ensure compliance with university standards for teaching
Develop and oversee the professional development for University Seminar Instructors
Coordinate and collaborate with freshman instructors to develop and implement the University Seminar curriculum and ensure quality across class sections
Communicate with students/colleges/other parties to answer inquires and ensure quality administration of class offerings
Serve as Instructor for University Seminar classes as needed.
Functional Area 2: Develop and Implement Retention Strategies

Job Duties
Integrate methods and practices to retain students along with strategies for addressing their needs
Utilize student information systems and related electronic platforms to track student communications interventions and outcomes
Analyze student data using university data systems (e.g. Tableau Argos) recommend actions and consider other methods for collecting data
Develop and oversee a repeat initiative to advise students who need to repeat courses and who are experiencing a possible disruption to their degree paths
Initiate and coordinate a onestop retention hub using a variety of communication means to contact students and address individual barriers to registration/degree completion
Determine Office of Student Success website content/updates to aid in student assistance and submit content to technology team
Manage the student academic standing process

Job Duties
Supervise one or more staff/student worker positions; Supervise Administrative Associate position
Participate in University activities including committee work student activities and other events
Complete training for the position and University required trainings
Assist with duties in the Office of Student Success Admin Office
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in applicable field.
Eight 8 years of experience.
Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum requirements.
Doctorate degree and six 6 years of experience.
Experience working with students and instructors in a university setting
Experience with curriculum and teaching at a university level
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Evidence of a studentcentered approach to completion of work duties and program development
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Understanding of Degree Works student early alert systems (e.g. EAB Starfish or Navigate) Argos and other university specific platforms
Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook Teams etc)
Understanding of Banner (or other) student information system
Experience with organizing class schedules and support of academic programs
Supervisory experience
SALARY: $70000 $75000/annually approximately.
$5833.34 $6250/monthly.
