- Salary relative to experience and ranges from $125693 to $138510 super
Join us in embedding Aboriginal cultural knowledge across the Botanic Gardens of Sydney.
The role
In this role youll collaborate with Aboriginal communities to ensure their voices traditions and knowledge are authentically represented in our gardens policies and programs. Youll bring stories to life through placemaking interpretation and innovative engagement making our sites places of learning and connection for visitors and staff alike.
As a key cultural advisor youll foster meaningful partnerships shape initiatives that respect and celebrate Aboriginal heritage and ensure our practices align with community needs and government priorities. This role is about more than preserving historyits about strengthening connections driving impactful change and ensuring every voice is heard and valued.
This hybrid role offers flexibility while ensuring strong onsite collaboration and opportunity to work on Country. Youll work in an approved Botanic Gardens officeeither the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney or the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.
Please note: The Mount Annan office is not easily accessible by public transport. If you choose to work from this location you will need to arrange your own transport.

What you will bring to the role
- Extensive cultural expertise Demonstrated experience in developing implementing and reviewing First Nations cultural strategies policies and procedures.
- Strong relationshipbuilding skills Proven ability to engage and collaborate with Aboriginal communities stakeholders and internal teams to foster meaningful connections.
- Government and policy knowledge Understanding of public administration legislative frameworks and budgetary processes within a government setting.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity Deep understanding of Aboriginal governance structures traditions and the cultural needs of First Nations peoples stakeholders and staff.
What is an essential requirement:
- This is an Identified role under the Section 14d of the AntiDiscrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role. Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Antidiscrimination Act 1977 for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
