Job Description

RESIDENT DIRECTOR ENTRADA SCHOLARS PROGRAM

SUMMARY:

Entrada is a fourweek program for students in grades 11 and 12. The program is designed for students of color and others who are committed to antiracism and crosscultural engagement.The Resident Director is part of a team of two Resident Directors and is responsible for all residence hall functions for the Entrada Scholars Program. This includes planning leading supervising and evaluating all residence life programs and initiatives. In addition the Residential Director provides daytoday leadership for eight to nine Resident Assistants and serves as the onsite responder for student emergencies disciplinary issues and parent communication. The Resident Director will provide overnight supervision and guidance in the resident hall during this program. Therefore candidates must be able to live on campus during the training planning and implementation of the Entrada Scholars Program (June 26th July 31.

SUPERVISES:

78 Resident Assistants

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Run RA staff meetings to ensure program goals and student needs/issues are met
  • Implements evening and weekend programming in the areas of social motivational and spiritual development; supports the academic and emotional needs of students
  • Provides lead administrative functions for the Program during the weekdays and throughout each weekend and is live oncampus for the duration of the program beginning with RA training / orientation
  • Ensures that students and RAs understand and implement Entrada policies and procedures
  • Consults daily with the Assistant Director for Academic Development to consider the needs of students and the complimentary functions of social motivational and/or spiritual developmental programming with that of academic developmental programming
  • Serves as a role model to Entrada scholars and residence staff
  • Works with the College Access staff on preprogram planning and postprogram wrapup as appropriate

Please note:

Special dietary needs/wants will be at the candidates own expense.

No visitors will be allowed on campus during the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA/BS degree in Counseling Education or Higher Education is strongly preferred 12 years of fulltime experience in summer youth programs required experience within the field of student development in a multicultural setting. A masters degree in student personnel counseling or education is preferred.

COMPENSATION:

$3500 paid in two installments in July. Room and board will be provided.

Please note: This position requires the use of your personal cellphone to communicate with parents and families during the implementation of this program. An additional $50 will be added to the stipend to cover the cost of cellphone use during the program.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The position requires the ability to explain college policies in difficult situations write and edit reports or technical documents coordinate and assess the work of others and activities requiring significant communication skills. Handles confidential information.

COMPLEXITY

The position requires the ability to solve problems and to deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Instructions may be furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The position has the authority it approved to take action or make recommendations that will affect procedures processes and practices involving customers or employees within the same department.

DECISION MAKING/JUDGMENT

The responsibilities of this position typically involve projects and/or assignments that have considerable decisionmaking authority regarding procedures plans and schedules. In dealing with students almost twentyfour hours a day 7 days a week this job is almost entirely independent. In moments of crisis there may be procedures in place but the Resident Director must be able to work independently.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The position requires regular participation with employees or customers deals with items of a routine nature with occasional supervision. Participants use information and expertise to influence outcomes and solve problems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work in this position is performed within routine office conditions usually without exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
