Job Description

Rochambeau The French International School of Washington DC (Rochambeau) has an opening for afulltime French Language and Literature Teacher for theschool year.

Location:Bethesda MD

Job Type:Fulltime; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable

Salary Information:The salary range is $49911$109469 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach.

Rochambeau The French International School (Rochambeau) located in Bethesda MD is an independent and coeducational day school offering a unique combination of the French curriculum and a highquality English program to approximately 1200 students from Preschool 2years old) through 12th grade. Position Summary

Rochambeau is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic French teacher for secondary school covering middle and high school students. The teacher will deliver lessons in alignment with the French National Curriculum prepare high school students for thepreuves Anticipes de Franaisof the French Baccalaurat and support students in an international environment. The ideal candidate will also have expertise inFrench as a language of schooling (langue de scolarisation)and familiarity with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) as these curricula are implemented in Grades 9 to 12 (preferred but not mandatory).

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the school director the French teacher will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging effective lessons aligned with the French National Curriculum and the requirements of thepreuves Anticipes de Franais.

  • Create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the intellectual social and emotional development of all students.

  • Prepare students for theDiplome National du Brevetexaminations ensuring academic excellence.

  • Develop adapt and select instructional materials and assessments to meet diverse student needs including those learning French as a language of schooling.

  • Monitor and evaluate student progress maintain accurate records and prepare detailed trimester report cards.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum content and assessments across grades and programs.

  • Integrate educational technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement.

  • Supervise students in various school settings and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.

  • Participate actively in parentteacher conferences faculty meetings professional development sessions and school events.

  • Support and contribute to the schools bilingual and multicultural environment upholding Rochambeaus vision mission and values.

  • Actively engage in extracurricular activities or initiatives that enrich the school community.

Education & Experience

  • Certification:Certifi(e)oragrg(e)inLettres ModernesorLettres Classiquesfrom the French Ministry of Education or an equivalent certification from a Francophone country.

  • Preferred Qualifications:Experience teaching thepreuves Anticipes de Franaisand preparing students for French national exams.

  • Education:A fouryear postsecondary degree (Bachelors or Masters) in French literature linguistics or a related field.

  • Experience:At least three years of teaching experience in secondary schools with a focus on French literature and language instruction.

  • International Curriculum Knowledge:Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) MYP and DP curricula is preferred.

  • Solid knowledge of English preferred.

Examples Of Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the school director plan and provide appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual physical social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervise students in a variety of schoolrelated settings. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes. Communicate and interact with students parents staff and the community. Develop select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment materials and facilities. Commitment to Rochambeaus vision mission and values. Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Physical Requirements

Sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of officerelated equipment such as but not limited to: a personal computer calculator copier fax machine and projection and video devices. Ability to engage in significant climbing stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting grasping or repetitive motions.
