Job Description:

Madison College School of Nursing is committed to supporting clinical practicum experiences for nurses pursuing Master and Doctoral degrees. Graduate students interested in completing practicum hours with Madison College may be accepted on a space available basis and matched with a faculty preceptor. Completing this application begins the process of identifying placement options. Graduate students are unpaid but must complete a contingent worker hire process and required online training modules to have access to college systems such as Blackboard.

Madison College student academic records are protected under The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). As a graduate student you will protect individual identifiable student information such as program status grades and other academic performance indicators you come in contact within the course of your studies.

Organizational Function and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for instruction and/or project completion at the college level in collaboration with a supervising faculty mentor/preceptor. This may include developing curriculum designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments delivering instruction assessing student learning advising students and participation in or observation of college service activities at the department division and college levels. This position reports to School of Nursing Department Chairs in collaboration with the identified Faculty preceptor.

Essential Duties:

The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. All will be planned and implemented in collaboration with and under the supervision of the faculty preceptor or additional delegated faculty members.

1. Responsible for limited and supervised instruction in the Nursing Programs including Associate Degree Nursing Practical Nursing Nursing Assistant Business and Industry Nursing offerings.

2. Participate in and observe the development and planning of appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies when appropriate including but not limited to hybrid facetoface classroom live and online course delivery.

3. Observe inservice meetings convocation training staff development training or other activities or programs requested by the School or student when appropriate.

4. Observe and provide limited directly supervised scripted assistance and advice to students who have problems with assignments tests grades course content career concerns and other academic matters.

5. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing record keeping advanced standing providing grades on a timely basis evaluating student performance and maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling etc.

6. Comply with college policies and directions regarding the precepted experience including providing information and documentation to their preceptor and program as required.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies including learnercentered instruction assessment evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race gender and disability.

2. Theoretical knowledge of the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.

3. Knowledge and ability to infuse multicultural perspectives into course content and delivery.

4. Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socioeconomic and racial backgrounds as well as individuals with disabilities.

5. Ability to interact in healthcare settings to maintain rapport.

Qualifications:

1. Graduate standing and enrollment in a class in a Master or Doctoral Degree Programs in Nursing requiring precepted learning.

2. Hold a current unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin.

3. Documentation of all educational heath and background information required by their graduate school Madison College the Madison College School of Nursing and all collaborating clinical sites.


Special Instructions to Applicants:

Madison College utilizes pool postings for all School of Nursing graduate preceptorship positions. This posting is a pool position to collect applications for potential opportunities and does not guarantee an assignment. Applications will be considered monthly on a rolling basis. Applications should be completed a minimum of 60 calendar days prior to the start of the precepted experience for consideration.

The hours for a graduate preceptorship vary and can include day evening and weekend times.The graduate student is expected to arrange their schedule to align with the work schedule of their preceptor. While a graduate student may express an interest in precepting with a specific faculty member all decision related to assignments are made solely by the administration of the School of Nursing.

Please include a personal statement of the objectives to be met during the precepted experience; short and longterm career goals; any Madison College faculty members with which you have a relationship including potential preceptors; and any other information that supports or distinguishes your application.
