Westerns Environmental Sciences program is committed to creating a space for students to value change and study the environment. The department offers degrees in Environmental Science at the undergraduate and masters level. Students in the program gain proficiencies in applying quantitative and critical thinking skills to environmental issues writing and speaking effectively to professional audiences about issues in the field using theoretical knowledge of environmental sciences in real world applications and incorporating multiple disciplines into environmental sciences.
We currently have 20 tenure track faculty that serve about 300 majors and over 20 graduate students annually offering a variety of degrees in environmental science with emphases in environmental toxicology and chemistry marine science and aquatic and terrestrial ecology. Many of our students are actively engaged in a vibrant and productive research environment under the active mentorship of our faculty and present at regional state and national conferences. Students will often also coauthor peerreviewed publications. The department maintains active relationships with community tribal agency NGO and private sector partners.
WWU invites applications for a fulltime inperson tenuretrack position at the assistant professor level focusing on environmental toxicology on the Bellingham campus beginning Fall 2025. The Environmental Sciences Department and the College of the Environment support Westerns mission that together with our students staff and faculty we are committed to making a positive impact in the state and world with a shared focus on academic excellence and inclusive achievement.
The position requires a strong commitment to teaching and research. Teaching responsibilities will include environmental toxicology and other courses in the candidates area of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach other courses within the Environmental Sciences curriculum.
All research foci in the broad field of environmental toxicology are encouraged to apply. Potential areas of research include but are not limited to: multistressor research; molecular biochemical and physiological responses to contaminants; new approach methodologies; and the use of nonmammalian model organisms. The successful candidate would be expected to leverage stateoftheart approaches to understand responses to contaminants contributing to our understanding of contaminant impacts on the environment.

Salary
The starting salary range for assistant professor appointment tenuretrack is generally between $77000 $82000 with placement within the positions salary range being based on qualifications and professional experience. The entire salary range for the assistant professor position is $77000 $85000 with the upper end of the salary range typically being achieved through collectively bargained salary adjustments.
