Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):

  • To assist Asian Studies faculty in their teaching. Occasionally they may be asked

To assist Asian Studies faculty in their research and collegerelated service.

Transferable Skills:

  • Communication (both in English and Chinese; both spoken and written); attention to detail; organization; punctuality; responsibility; confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To work with given faculty members in the Chinese program;
  • To prepare and staff tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Chinese courses 111 to 360;
  • To assist faculty members in reviewing homework and correcting quizzes;
  • To assist faculty members in Chinese related activities and events;
  • To assist faculty members in preparing course materials or carrying out projects as assigned.

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

Hiring preference will be given to Chinese or Asian Studies majors as well as those with native/near native fluency of Mandarin.

Minimum qualification:

  • Completion of Chinese 232 with a grade of A or better or native language proficiency;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with minimal supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong Mandarin language skills;
  • Punctuality in providing complete and timely feedback to students and arriving on time for meetings;
  • Enthusiasm for promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture.
