Aging Services of North Central Massachusetts (ASNCM) is the Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) for a 24town area in North Central Massachusetts. Our organization is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated intern interested in the human services field with a specific focus on arranging care and assistance for the elderly community. The intern will work closely with our team of case managers program specialists and program managers to gain crucial handson experience in supporting elderly individuals and their families. This internship offers an opportunity to gain insight into the challenges and rewards of working in the human service field develop valuable communication and problemsolving skills and learn practical techniques for organizing personcentered care.
This is a 35 hour per week internship and it is equivalent to a 12credit class.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Visit elders in the community conduct assessments formulate care plans and coordinate the delivery of inhome services.
Ensure compliance with Executive Office of Elder Affairs (EOEA) Regulations and ASNCM policies.
Shadow and assist State Home Care Case Managers Program Specialists and Program Managers.
Conduct home visits and manage cases under the guidance of a supervisor.
Attend program reviews and staff meetings as required.
Play a role in quality improvement activities that ensure optimum consumer outcomes.
Assist with administrative duties including recordkeeping data entry and program development.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program.
Passion for working with the elderly community and an interest in human services and nonprofit organizations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive relationships with consumers families and coworkers.
Good organizational problemsolving and timemanagement skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically Word and Excel.
Must pass a necessary background check.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits communication with supervisors coworkers consumers community professionals and the general public.
Ability to talk on a phone stand walk sit and travel in the community.
Ability to travel throughout the state of Massachusetts in a private vehicle under all weather conditions including snow.
Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly orally and in writing.
Sufficient vision which permits production and review of a wide variety of materials written correspondence reports and related electronic and paper communication.
Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 20 pounds.
Ability to read and analyze data.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
