Idaho Power located in vibrant Boise Idaho is looking for an Cultural Resource Leader to join our Environmental Terrestrial team. Its an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Our work plays a critical role in communities we serve across Idaho and Oregon and were working hard to safely provide our customers with the reliable affordable clean energy they depend on.

While this position is based at Idaho Powers downtown Boise location we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40 remote.

What does a Cultural Resource Leader do for us

Operating under minimal supervision or oversight and using independent initiative a Cultural Resource Leader has comprehensive research regulatory and cultural resource management expertise in the cultural resource field.

Additional job duties include:

  • Overseeing programs through all phases of projects (scoping through closing)
  • Interfacing with internal departments and external organizations at a highly technical level and supervising other scientists and support staff
  • Developing and incorporating highly technical information from original research and scientific literature into reports for use in management decisions appropriately
  • Supervising programs and projects
  • Directing and coordinating activities of a team of employees and/or contractors
  • Aligning program and project goals and objectives with Company goals and values
  • Implementing projects and programs with results and information that can be applied to Company issues and needs

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Cultural resource research principles and the production and application of scientific data and analyses related to cultural resource protection and management
  • Utilities and their business environment
  • Environmental rules and regulations and their application to cultural resource management
  • Regulatory processes relevant to the siting licensing compliance and operations of IPC power production transmission and distribution activities and infrastructure specific to cultural resource related regulations.

Preferred:

  • Federal Energy Regulatory Commission licensing and compliance
  • Federal land management agency permitting and consultation processes related to Section 106 compliance
  • Tribal government dynamics

Skills in:

  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Consulting party relationship development and outreach
  • Leading and managing staff
  • Resolving interpersonal and cultural resource management issues
  • The use of computers software and survey equipment related to position

Preferred:

  • Resolving cultural resource management issues

Ability to:

  • Coordinate plan and implement complex projects and programs
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Work effectively both independently and on project teams
  • Develop and evaluate alternatives relative to their value and potential for study goals and objectives collaboratively
  • Apply relatively complex scientific information methods and concepts to cultural resource research studies
  • Produce written and oral reports of problems alternatives and recommendations


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Master of Science degree in Natural Resources Environmental Science or Biology from an accredited institution

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Cultural Resource Anthropology or related field from an accredited institution
  • Master of Science or Master of Arts thesis

Experience:

  • 8 years of related experience

Preferred:

  • 10 years of related experience

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Valid Departmental of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card must be obtained prior to hire


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position performs both office and fieldwork. The office work requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment fine motor skills including typing on the computer dialing phones filing paper and working in close proximity to other people. The fieldwork includes walking/hiking up to 68 miles on even/uneven terrain in allweather/soil conditions. Fieldwork typically takes place during the Spring/Summer/Fall but may take place any time of year including during the winter (with the ability to take selfpaced breaks when needed). Some work locations require climbing and maneuvering over rocky talus slopes comprised of large boulders and very steep slopes. Lifting of up to 48 lbs. to waist height is performed occasionally. Squatting crouching and crawling is performed occasionally and stooping/bending kneeling reaching and twisting is required frequently. Climbing is required occasionally such as over fences on large boulder slopes and in and out of boats. Operation of ATVs or UTVs is required at times to access sites. Pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs. is performed occasionally. Excavation tasks require the ability to use hand tools such as shovels picks and trowels to dig and remove dirt in controlled excavation units. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management.
