Primary Purpose:

Conduct formal psychoeducational evaluations to assist in determining special education eligibility planning placement and consultation with or referral to available resources. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel in order to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree and valid educational diagnostician certificate
• Teaching Certification with Special Education Endorsement
• Minimum 3 years in Special Education instruction or assessment preferred

Skill Requirements:

• Ability to administer and interpret a variety of evaluation instruments
• Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of IDEA guidelines and the MTSS framework

Professional Requirements:

• Administer score and interpret formal psychoeducational evaluation instruments (intelligence achievement and developmental).
• Interview students parents school personnel and gather other sources of information for individual students.
• Observe students in classrooms for diagnostic purposes.
• Interpret and synthesize information obtained from schoolbased interventions to prepare written reports and develop appropriate recommendations.
• Facilitate ARDs that include REEDs or that introduce new evaluation reports to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.
• Consult with administrators and teachers to assist with curriculum adaptations and classroom practices for students receiving special education services.
• Collaborate and consult with NYOS diagnosticians and LSSPs to coordinate evaluation schedules responsibilities and combined report writing.
• Establish and maintain effective open communication with students parents teachers and administrators.
• Participate in professional development aligned with the role and responsibilities of a diagnostician.
• Provide leadership and guidance to support the MTSS framework and the NYOS referral process.
• Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model behavior that is professional and responsible.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and local board policy in the areas of psychological services assessment placement and planning for special education services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Follow NYOS standard procedures for communication interaction and discipline as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands: This position is active and may involve standing walking bending kneeling stooping crouching crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following: Regular and Reliable Attendance. The incumbent receives administrative supervision. Incumbent independently makes evaluation decisions. The incumbent will maintain working relationships with parents teachers other school and departmental staff and agencies to share information solve problems and plan programs for students with disabilities. The incumbent will maintain a professional level of emotional intelligence under stress.
