Job Description

About ECC:

Rate of Pay:

This position is a grade 14 with a minimum of$23.83.Hourly rate offer will be commensurate with the education/experience in alignment with the Colleges compensation philosophy and the current CBA if applicable.

Job Summary:

An employee in this classification performs work of moderate difficulty by providing career counseling to current and prospective students alumni and community members. Work is distinguished by the ability to administer and interpret personality and ability assessments tests and the development of new career services programs. Direction is received by the assigned manager.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  1. Masters degree (MA) with a minimum of two years experience counseling individuals on career development and job search processes or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge administering and interpreting career assessment instruments specifically the MyersBriggs Type Indicator Strong Interest Inventory and SelfDirected Search.
  3. Considerable skills in verbal and written communication.
  4. Considerable skills in presentation development and delivery.
  5. Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Word Excel Access and Publisher
  6. Considerable skill in organizing work to meet established deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  7. Working skill in interpersonal interaction to be applied to a variety of individuals with differing education ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  8. Working skill in operating a personal computer applicable software and peripheral equipment as well as learning and adapting to new and updated programs and technology.
  9. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends when required by the departments needs.

Desired Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  1. Masters degree in counseling social services or human services.

Essential Duties:

  1. Counsel students alumni and community members to identify and implement chosen career objectives. Provide individual assessment testing to assist participants in integrating career choices with various diverse personal challenges and concerns. Make referrals to external professional resources for assistance if necessary.
  2. Develop and deliver presentations on career planning and development resume development and interviewing skills to ECC classes and community organizations.
  3. Coach students alumni and community members on personalized job search strategies including critique of resumes cover letters and mock interviews.
  4. Represent the Career Services division at college events; assist Career Services management in development of strategies to promote career counseling services.
  5. Serve on college committees to ensure course programming that provides career development education.
  6. Maintains required training licensure and/or certifications
  7. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to applicable privacy laws
  8. Demonstrates sensitivity understanding and respect of diverse populations within the workplace.
  9. Maintains an understanding of the work of colleagues to effectively provide backup and/or support for coworkers during times when the division is shortstaffed or experiencing an increased volume of work.
  10. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality

Other Duties:

  1. Perform other jobrelated duties as assigned which pertain to the job description.
  2. Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes days/evenings/weekends as needed by the department.
