Job Description
General Purpose
Counselors work in cooperation with the Site Director and program supervisor to design and facilitate Summer Day Camp enrichment activities for youth living at one of four Burlington area dropin Recreation & Nutrition sites located in lowincome housing communities. Site staff coordinate with other BPRW and Burlington School Food Project staff in order to conduct free lunch and/or dinner service to area youth as part of the program. The Recreation & Nutrition program focuses on expanding equity and access to summer recreation offerings and addressing youth food insecurity.

- Work as a team with fellow counselors and director to plan and implement 8 weeks of engaging constructive and enjoyable activities for Recreation and Nutrition participants
- Incorporate personal passions and skills into the activities you offer in areas such as outdoor cultural physical and academic
- Build positive relationships with fellow staff and program participants identifying the interests and needs of the community served in order to support enhanced engagement and inform future activity planning
- Provide a safe welcoming and inclusive space for a diverse group of participants
- Provide excellent customer service to parents guardians and caregivers through ongoing communication and program updates
- Serve meals through the Federally funded Summer Food Services Program (SFSP) following all departmental and federal & state meals service rules and regulations.
- Attend staff meetings and staff trainings as required.
- Maintain a safe area and report any deficiencies incidents or accidents to supervisor.
- Administer proper First Aid as required.
- Required to be on site before the program starts for set up and preparation as well as clean up at the end of the day.
- Participate in the evaluation process.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
- Ability to actively support City diversity equity and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware.
- Previous experience working with children in a group or individualized situation preferred.
- College course work in Education childhood development family studies or recreation preferred.
- Ability to supervise and organize groups of children for activity programs.
- Knowledge of safety principles and practices as they apply to group activities.
- Knowledge of a variety of recreation/leisure activities and group games.
- A cooperative attitude and a team player.
- Prior FirstAid / CPR / Lifeguard training.
- Enthusiasm patience a desire to work with children and creativity.
- Upon conditional offer of employment candidate must successfully complete background investigation.
