Department Summary

The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life at the center of the beautiful University of Oregon campus. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs more than 90 professional staff and 200 student staff who are dedicated to service and care in all we do. Since 1950 the Erb Memorial Union (EMU) has been the gathering place for campus activities community interaction and socializing at the University of Oregon. The EMU welcomes more than 15000 daily users during the academic year including students faculty staff community partners and visitors to campus. Our mission is to provide an open inclusive and resourcerich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity social interaction and growth. The EMU is student learning and development centered and engages a student advisory board involved in shaping the departments character and scope. We provide students with a safe place to explore new ideas and take risks an environment that fosters realworld experience and a process that allows students to learn at their own paceall within the framework of staff support and guidance.

Moss Street Childrens Center (MSCC) is an early child development program that primarily serves children of UO students aged 3 months through five years. Our large campus center is open hours 8:154 pm Monday through Friday (updated).

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to serve as a lead teacher in the Moss St. Childrens Center. Because each classroom is self contained the teacher has responsibility for classroom operations including the coordination of staff center procedures curriculum planning and implementation and record keeping. Guidelines used for operation will follow Childcare Division Regulations state health regulations and program rules and philosophy.

This position supervises students and reports to a mentor teacher. Duties will include:
Planning preparing and implementing developmentallyappropriate curriculum including motor language socialemotional cognitive selfhelp/living creative arts and leisure skills; working with staff to provide consistent and stimulating educational program
Interacting with children individually in small groups and in the large group; leading group activities; guiding free play; providing one on one nurturing; using positive behavior guidance techniques
Guiding directing and educating teaching assistants practicum students workstudy students and aides
Providing consistent and clear communication with parents from diverse backgrounds and cultures; initiating and conducting parent conferences; cooperating with Parent council in coordinating program and parent Council interests and events; participating in fundraisers
Supervising the preparation serving and cleanup of meals and snacks; conducting point of service meal counts and completing USDA documents; participating in the maintenance of supplies and equipment

Minimum Requirements

An Associates degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a recognized program; OR
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential; OR
A minimum of twenty semester hours (thirty quarter hours) of college courses in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; AND one year of experience in a certified day care center or comparable group care program; OR
Two years of experience including at least one year as a teacher in a certified day care center or comparable group child care program

Professional Competencies

Ability to communicate effectively with children parents and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures

Preferred Qualifications

At least three years of experience supervising or leading the work of other staff members
Experience using child development assessment tools and reporting results
