Job Description Summary
The Department of Communications invites applications for a tenuretrack position in Digital Film Production. The successful candidate will teach classes in digital filmmaking at the beginning intermediate and advanced levels. The candidate will also have expertise in the following areas: camera editing lighting audio directing producing writing multimedia multicamera TV production community media or film history or theory especially Hispanic/Latino cinema. This is a fulltime tenure track position at the assistant professor level begins Fall 2016. The Department seeks someone who will work with senior faculty to continuously improve the curriculum in assigned course areas; maintain established office hours to provide oneonone or group support for students; find internship leads for students. An MFA in film or media production or Ph.D. in film/media history/theory is required; previous university teaching experience desired. Student advising and committee work is required of all our faculty as well as maintaining a record of scholarship publication and professional activities to assure department and university visibility. The Communications Department supports a comprehensive program which includes majors in print journalism; broadcast with emphases in radio and television; and communications with emphases in public affairs multimedia and broadcast journalism. It contracts with two local cities to run their public access television stations. University students produce much of the content that airs on the channels. The department features a TV studio a multimedia computer lab and a fourcamera high definition remote production trailer. Students cover 30 events a year as part of their coursework using the trailer. Our students have won awards for their video production work from the BEA SPJ Alliance for Community Media the Tellys Cine Pegasus and The Accolade. Many of our graduates are working in front of the camera and behind the scenes in film and television in Los Angeles and across the country.
