The Opportunity

We have a wonderful opportunity for a graduate or newly admitted lawyer (up to 2 years PAE) to join our Commonwealth Compensation and Industrial Relations team.

The role will be based in either Sydney or Canberra; we remain openminded on location for the right candidate.

At McInnes Wilson our focus is on hiring the right people. This is a junior solicitor role so we dont expect you to have 10 years legal experience. Our expertise is clear in the fact that we are one of the firms appointed to every category of the Whole of Australia Government Legal Panel and we are approaching 50 years as a firm. If you are the right fit we can teach you and provide the experience. Well also provide access to incredible opportunities for client relationship management and an interesting crosssection of work involving not just workers compensation (litigation and advice) but also associated employment and scheme related matters as well.

What we need is a team player who is keen to go the extra mile with a genuine interest in employment industrial relations and workers compensation law.

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Managing and assisting in litigated matters predominantly in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Fair Work Commission including attending and participating in preliminary and conciliation conferences as well as Directions Hearings;
  • Advisory work regarding employment and industrial relations and administrative law and government decision making;
  • Client relationship management; and
  • Assisting in marketing and business development activities.
