Job Description
Ohel is seeking a Family Advocate for its new Family Enrichment Centeropening in Brooklyn. The Family Advocate with building connections with FEC Staff and community partners. Candidate should have an engagingempathetic communication style based on natural warmth and enthusiasm. The FEC Family Advocate is responsible for contributing to the daytoday operation of the FEC including codesigning and delivering programming providing concrete advocacy for members making referrals and creating a warm and welcoming gathering place. The Family Advocate will welcome newcomers take active steps to recruit volunteers and ensure that they are valued members of the team.
A key part of the Family Advocates job is to convene support and collaborate with a team of local parents to deliver monthly events (training will be provided).
Responsibilities:
- Engage in outreach to parents children and other community members to encourage them to visit the FEC and attend and design offerings
- Help parents children and other community members connect to local resources services and other supports
- Use Appreciative Inquiry and other strengthbased tools to engage community members in codesigning offerings
- Create monthly calendars website content and other outreach tools to promote and document offerings
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree AND three 3 years of professional experience;OR a high school diploma AND five 5 years of professional experience in communitydrivenprograms working directly with children youth and families
- Minimum knowledge of lived experience in and commitment to the FEC community
- Experience caring for children as a parent guardian relative neighbor or babysitter
- Outstanding interpersonal skills
The ideal candidate is a selfstarter who can work independently as well as within a team and has excellent follow up skills. This full time position is based in Brooklyn and includes a competitive benefits package including health insurance as well as generous paid time off. Available to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed. Bilingual Hebrew Yiddish Spanish or Russian speaker is a plus.
Salary: $50000$55000
