Job Description

Location:

Under the general direction of the Claims Manager Repwest Insurance Company responsible for the investigation evaluation and settlement (either by denial compromise or payment) of claims arising from physical damages to vehicles property of customers (higher and more complex cases) and third parties (medium to high exposure bodily injury claims). Direct tasks and activities of independent adjuster and other support services. Review and negotiate rates for services provided. Supervise work product of subordinate adjusters on complex claims. Perform a variety of duties which require indepth knowledge specialized training and experience to understand risks under management products offered and insurance investigation techniques within the claims office. Must maintain integrity of proprietary information.

This is an inoffice position located at Pennsylvania.

Essential Duties: (Note: Essential duties are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary).

  • Provide technical guidance and training to Claims Adjusters (I & II).

  • Guide and direct Claims Adjusters (I & II) in the performance of their duties and assist and advise them on problem claims and/or questions.

  • Receive correspondence or phone call alleging some type of loss or claim from insured and/or claimant.

  • Review existing pertinent correspondence or talk to a party on the phone.

  • Send out letters and necessary forms required.

  • Take recorded statements whenever possible.

  • Determine if an independent adjuster is required and make proper arrangements by contacting local adjusting bureau in that area by letter or telephone.

  • Gather facts pertinent to the liability of the claim by written correspondence telephone and services of an independent adjuster if necessary.

  • Evaluate data supplied by police reports repair statements contracts witness statements claims settlements etc. to determine if liability exists.

  • Prepare a formal denial by dictating a letter to go out under the Claims Managers signature if there is no coverage.

  • Evaluate and negotiate the amount of the claim according to the facts of the accident and investigation if there is coverage and exposure.

  • Use full judgment and discretion to settle at a fair price after proper investigation claims of a highly complex nature within adjusters authority limits (typically $15000 or more) without sacrificing quality of work to meet established standards of quantity.

  • Must become licensed in all states handled within six months of employment which require an adjusters license.

  • Utilize the adjusters experience knowledge and judgment to provide the insured and/or claimant with the best possible service thereby avoiding complaints.

  • Maintain a number of pending claims within acceptable limits and control expenses through proper work organization.

  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion to handle litigated claims and large claims including high exposure bodily injury and property damage claims.

  • Keep abreast of industry trends and new practices and methods by formal schooling and reviewing technical publications.

  • Maintain productivity records reflecting claims assignments opening & closing outstanding claims and other similar materials as directed by Claims Manager.

  • Take recorded statements as required.

  • Must read and follow fair claims practices of states for which they are accountable.

  • Meet or exceed company and department performance goals.

Other Duties Performed Occasionally or Infrequently:

  • May perform the duties of the Claims Supervisor as required by vacation or absence.

Education/Training Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in business or a related field or the equivalent in experience.

  • Possession of professional licenses or the ability to secure the same within a sixmonth period if available in location of employment.

Experience:

  • 4 5 years in claims or a related field. This position requires working knowledge of multiple state insurance rules regulations and unfair claims practice medical terminology legal terminology and processes and negligence laws.
