The Position
The State and Local Tax Manager will report directly to CSWIs Senior Tax Director.Primary responsibilities include the timely and accurate preparation of state and local tax returns and state tax related calculations within the quarterly and annual SEC filings.
Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and filing of state and local tax returns for the companys operations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Calculate state taxable income including state modifications to federal taxable income allocation and apportionment franchise taxes and various other state income tax calculations.
- Monitor the state filing calendar including analyzing nexus to identify new state and local filing obligations.
- Research changes in state and local tax laws regulations and rulings ensuring compliance and advising management of significant developments.
- Develop a process for monitoring and ensuring compliance of sales/use property and other state and local taxes prepared by other parties.
- Develop accurate and efficient processes for calculating and forecasting state impact on overall effective tax rate.
- Calculate and process quarterly state and local estimated payments and yearly extensions.
- Develop and implement state and local tax planning strategies identifying opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation.
- Coordinate and lead state and local tax audits working with external auditors and state authorities as necessary.
- Manage the daytoday tasks of state and local audits and notices including the supervision of staff timely communications with various state tax authorities and providing periodic status updates of audits and notices.
- Review actual and projected state income tax provisions including state UTPs valuation allowances and cash taxes.
- Provide guidance and training to staff and other departments on state and local tax matters.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external tax advisors and government agencies.
- Assist with the preparation of tax provision calculations and documentation for state and local taxes ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as legal finance and operations to ensure taxefficient business structures and transactions.
Experience and Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Tax Accounting Finance or a related field; CPA or MST preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in state and local tax with a strong understanding of the various tax types (income sales/use property etc. across multiple states.
- Indepth knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations including tax planning and compliance.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
- Ability to work and thrive in a lean organization and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Detailoriented with excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with stakeholders at different levels.
- Proficiency with Onesource Income Tax and Tax Provision or similar return and provision software SAGE depreciation software and Microsoft Office Suite including Excel (formulas pivot tables and data analysis).
- High ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial information.
- Ability to lead develop and manage staff
