Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing technical duties in the design maintenance and management of city roadways.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts field investigations; collects processes and analyzes data of traffic and safety inquiries from the public city officials and state agencies; designs and maintains database and files for traffic data; presents final results and conclusions in oral and written reports letters spreadsheets and assessments.
- Designs drafts prepares and interprets complex engineering drawings maps architecture plans signal designs GIS and CAD drawings used in presentations correspondence studies news releases and division projects.
- Creates and maintains electronic templates symbols and standards for use in standard documentation and correspondence.
- Conducts street light investigations for new subdivision street construction and individual citizen requests; creates street light documentation for new authorized installations by local power companies; creates and maintains street light inventory map and supporting elements.
- Evaluates assigns and coordinates with other departments work order requests from the Citizens Service Center.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the accepted principles and practices of traffic and/or civil engineering. Knowledge of traffic signal/system design and operations.
- Knowledge of the principles of street lighting design.
- Skills in the use of personal computers and jobrelated software programs.
- Skills in problem solving and decision making.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
Supervisory Controls:
- The Traffic Engineering Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions.
- The supervisor spotchecks completed work for compliance with procedures accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
Guidelines:
- Guidelines include the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices state department of transportation guidelines and city and division policies and procedures.
- These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
Complexity:
- Work consists of related technical duties. Strict deadlines contribute to the complexity
- of the position.
Scope and Effect:
- The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the design maintenance and management of city roadways.
- Successful performance results in a roadway network that moves goods and people safely and efficiently.

Physical Requirements:
- Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting standing or stooping.

Educational and Training Requirements:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
