Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking the Associate Director for Population Science (AD for Pop Sci) at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. This individual will hold a primary faculty appointment within the appropriate School/Division/Department identified based on the selected candidates relevant education and experience with a secondary administrative appointment as the AD for Pop Sci in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center within the School of Medicine. Appointment and rank in an academic department will be determined by the applicants qualifications. The AD for Pop Sci is both the scientific and administrative leader for fostering bidirectional communication and authentic engagement between LCCC members and relevant stakeholders on the topic of population science related to cancer. This leader is responsible for establishing a vision and mission for Population Science that is codeveloped in collaboration with other leaders and aligns with the LCCC strategic plan. Responsibilities include: developing the longterm vision goals policies and procedures to support the mandatory population science component of the National Cancer Institute NCI P30 Cancer Center Support Grant CCSG ; implement strategies tactics and metrics to accomplish population science goals; monitor and evaluate Pop Sci activities and progress for efficacy and alignment with the strategic plan; recruitment of additional scientists and advocacy of postdoctoral positions to broaden breadth and depth of Pop Sci at LCCC ; foster inter and intra programmatic transdisciplinary and team science that features population science; advocate for institutional and communitybased infrastructure and resources to ensure the success of population science at LCCC . Additional duties include: monitor needs of population scientists to identify beneficial shared resources for program members; respond effectively to EAB feedback about Pop Sci at LCCC ; work collaboratively with fellow Associate Directors to advance plans to enhance inclusivity and expand the biomedical cancer research workforce and leadership. UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center LCCC is one of the largest research organizations in the UNC system. UNC Lineberger is the only public NCI designated comprehensive cancer center within the State of North Carolina and supports 425 members 605 staff nine research programs and 32 shared resources. UNC Lineberger has been rated an exceptional NCI center in the last three CCSG cyclesmaking it eligible to extend the current cycle to 2027. LCCC is the center of cancer research at UNC Chapel Hill and beyond. LCCC focuses on a mission to propel cancer research for the state of North Carolina the nation and the globe to improve patient outcomes. As a large matrix cancer center they are physically located in the center of the medical campus in the UNC Lineberger building a 79000 square foot building dedicated exclusively to cancer research. It is flanked by Marsico Hall (completed in 2015 and the Mary Ellen Jones Building (completed in 2021 where LCCC has additional wet and dry research facilities. LCCC has more than 170000 square feet of dedicated research across the campus. Patients are seen in Basnight Cancer Hospital completed in 2009. The faculty are representative of the broad scope and depth of LCCCs cancer research enterprise. Fortyeight departments are represented across the campus including those in the Schools of Medicine Pharmacy Nursing Public Health Dentistry Journalism Social Work and the College of Arts and Sciences.
