About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI)Chicago officeis looking for an experienced Project Manager Structural Engineerto join our Team!We are a leading engineering firm known for quality responsiveness and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm.As a Project Manager (Structural Engineer)you willhave the opportunity to successfully complete and deliver on assigned structural projects. As the primary contact with the clients the Project Manager also plays a key rolein maintaining clients confidence by safeguarding their interests and striving to achieve their goals within the confines of the executed contract. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities
  • Attends client and public meetings (days evenings or nights).
  • Coordinates with all disciplines (internal and external) involved in project delivery and ensure
  • that the project team understands their scope schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinates with the Design Group Manager and/or Office Manager to plan and secure the required technical and tangible resources for project delivery.
  • Coordinates work with the clients and other team members.
  • May assist in reviewing the contracts to safeguard the firms exposure against risks associated with scope fees and schedule along with contract language which allocates unreasonable and uninsurable liability to the firm.
  • May negotiate client contracts and develop scope fees and schedule.
  • May provide constructability reviews and value engineering reviews.
  • May secure executed contracts Notice to Proceed and Sub Consultant Agreements prior to the inception of project services.
  • May serve as an onsite project representative and/or provide construction observation duties in the field.
  • Monitors clients project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles that may compromise or influence achieving such goals.
  • Monitors project delivery in relation to the contracted scope and fees. Promptly identifies clientrequested outofscope services and works diligently with the client to secure additional compensation or limit efforts to the contracted scope of work while ensuring the client is aware of the limits of negotiated scope.
  • Prepares complex reports studies and permits for projects.
  • Prepares design computations plans and related construction documents.
  • Prepares quantity and cost estimates.
  • Responsible for the organization of project documents and files.
  • Responsible for the technical accuracy and competency of projects.
  • Responsible for using computerassisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Schedules project progress meetings with all disciplines and personnel to monitor project progress as defined by management.
  • Signs and seals assigned project documents.
  • Visits the construction site to monitor progress and other duties per the contract documents.

  • Minimum 5 years of combined experience in structural engineering is required.
  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering is required.
  • Masters Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Active Structural Engineer PE License in the State of Illinois.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering.
  • Proven leadership skills with engineering staff and organizations.
  • Strong team player in a multidisciplinary environment who can work on and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers handle or feel objects tools or controls; climb; reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable drivers record.
  • Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites have good handeye coordination and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or inprogress construction hazards: fumes toxic chemicals risk of electric shock and vibration. Often works around dust asphalt and concrete.
  • Sometimes needs to put in extra hours including weekends to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
  • Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
  • Usually works a standard 40hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
  • Usually works in outside weather conditions.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions possibly for an extended period of time depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require the use of hearing protection.
